soon moving the piggies to outdoor hutch, just concerned they will be chilly. What can I use to help them snuggle? I understand I should not use straw?

My hay goes flat or gets eaten too!
A cardboard box inside the bedding area with a fleece blanket or lining.
Fleece strips over the door way to reduce drafts.
A pigloo or cosy.

I wanted to add that another great tip I got on here was to line any wooden areas with lino.
This will help cut out small drafts too.
We didn't actually have any lino and I am a great believer in using what you have on hand, so I actually used some thick sticky backed plastic (the type you use for covering books). It looks super bright (day glo orange walls anyone?) and is so far working well. Plus it is cheap, so I can easily replace it when needed.
Not sure if your hutch is wood, but we now have this up the sides and across the floor of the sleeping area.

My guinea pigs live inside but I use hemp mats in my rabbit shed.
You can get a big mat for about £5.

It's soft and warm to lay on because it's quite thick. :) they don't look very nice but they usually get covered in hay so I don't see them :D

They last a while too. We got the ones they are using now at the start of February :)

We had the same issue with hay he getting eaten and going flat, so we've put fleece in the bedroom, I made a Cozy for them which is big enough for our two girls and two snugglesafe heat pads! The fleece was only £5, and we used an old towel, and they absolutely love it! It definitely keeps them warm at night x20160403_125110.webp

I want to line the floor and walls in our hutch, where can I get the stuff you mention? I like the idea of adding a bit of colour x

I got it at a regular stationary shop - in the UK you could probably try WH Smiths.
Just ask for contact paper or sticky back plastic for covering books. It comes in all sorts of snazzy colours.
We are currently sporting orange in the bedroom, but I am thinking of adding some hot pink to the living room walls next time I clean the hutch out!

That looks amazing! The colour matches your pigs beautifully and they look super cosy.

And do you just wash the fleece once a week?
Yes, I clear the fleece and Cozy twice a day of poop, and wash once a week, as there is no hay upstairs it stays pretty clean really! It's working for us x
