I recently homed 2 young guinea pigs. I didn't want to but my daughter insisted. I have fallen in love with them so quick though. I quickly noticed the, the cage you purchase in the shop is just too small, although it did seem too big in the shop. I had to figure something out quick and cheap. I converted my Ikea wardrobe (had a broken foot). I left 1 door on to keep it enclosed, I used a hinge to allow the door to open for easy access cleaning. I now have more room for the pigs to run around and the bonus of a new piece of living room furniture. I am chuffed with the outcome for an hours work.

:wel: Just make sure it’s big enough. 120x60cm for girls and 150x60cm for boys. We’d love more pics of your piggies 😛

Siikibam, thanks for that info I've just done the math. Original cage recommended for 2 young pigs was 88cm x 50cm (0.44m squared).
Your recommended size for 2 girls was 60cm x 120cm (0.72m squared).
My wardrobe is actually 50cm x 170cm (0.85m square). It's more narrow than you recommend but more over all square footage. At least it's doubled the size of the original for now. I wish I could just use the entire half of my living room as a pen 😂

It looks amazing well done. Just make sure you line it with something such as lino to stop the urine from soaking in to the wood x
Yes that is my next step. They have been peeing in the same corners. Temporary fix....i sewed a black bag into 3 layers of my daughters old school jumper and capped the edges off with a blanket stitch so as they can't eat the bag, I can wash it but not tumble dry. Is it possible to use puppy pads under the fleece?

Yep puppy pads under fleece is what a lot of indoor piggy keepers do.

Size is good. 120cm x 60cm is the absolute minimum rspca welfare standards for two piggies, but bigger is always better! Well done for recognising the 88cm was too small. It’s such a shame that cages that size are still sold as suitable for piggies (and rabbits)

Yes I use puppy pads in my own cage as do many other members :)

I would remove that corn chew thingy. They’re a choking hazard. If you want to give them a treat you can give fresh corn in the cob or baby corn.
