Hi all!

Hope everyones having a great day! I have been reading lots and lots of very useful advice about re-introducing boars and now feel that I have plenty of tricks to try but was wondering if I could hear some of your personal experiences with this as it will be helpful to get a different perspective.

My two boars were bought together and I was told they are from the same litter (which I am not convinced about due to very different colourings and features). They were fine for a fortnight, snuggled up to each other, shared food bowls and seemed very happy together. However, a fortnight ago I found Cookie to have a nasty bite to his nose :( (I was not sure what was wrong with him until I took him to the vets and was told it was a bite). Cookie was treated for any possible mite infections and I have been giving him antibiotics for the past 8 days to clear the infection that was in the bite. They have both been seperated since I found Cookie with the sore.

I have built a makeshift run so that both can see each other, squeak to each other and sniff each other. However Ginger was very sneaky and managed to get his mouth through a gap and bite cookie again! :( Poor Cookie! So until I can sort a better arrangement out they have been near each other but not seperated by mesh as suggested in most of the advice I have found.

Cookie is back at the vets next week for a check up and then I intend to bath them both and try some of the re-introduction tricks.

If anyone has had experience of introducing boars in a simular situation I would love to hear from you.

Thanks again for all the great advice and support!

Hi. I have no experience of this but all I know is if that blood has been drawn it is unlikely to be able to put them back together. I hope that someone who knows more will be able to help you

RAchelJessica, Can I ask you where you got your pigs? We bought ours just over 3 weeks ago at pets at home (never again!) and we've had real issues with Jasper (bloat and ear mites). Ive got my fingers crossed my boys dont fight when we reintroduce them

..

I bought two guinea pigs from pets at home, one was sexed as a female when he's actually a male, and the other had a lump on her face, which the in store vet treated with an overdose of antibiotics and she died. I have never got over this as she was just weeks old! disgusted with the whole company.

anyway back to dominance! I have one male who will not merge with others.. hes OBSESSIVELY dominant, constant mounting, biting, greedy with food and just generally naughty! My last resort with Alfred is to have him neuterd to live with my girls!
A good technique to try is to bath them together, the fear of the water makes them almost forget about their fallings out! and they begin to bond out of fear and begin to look after one another. Your piggy sounds like mine though.. its heartbreaking! :0

I have no hands on experience, but if one is still trying to get the other through the bars I would suggest you leave it a while before re-introducing them. It sounds like they are at their hormonal stage which is when most fall outs happen. This will die down as they mature and you may be able to try again when they have got over the hormones, but until then I wouldn't tempt fate. Leave them side by side for now so they can still see and smell each other. It may be that they can never be re-bonded but I would definitely wait until they are out of the hormonal stage (around 14-15 months) before attempting this.
