Hello, I have read a few posts on keeping piggies warm in the winter, but I just want to ask a couple more questions.
First some background info; My piggies live in a shed, I have velvet curtains fixed to the walls of the shed to hopefully keep some heat in and the cold out. They live in a 2x8 C and C cage which is raised off the floor on a wooden work surface. As it is getting cold I have covered both ends of the cage with some blankets, added more hay and added more igloos.
Questions
1. I don't have a microwave, is there anything I can use appart from the microwave heat pads?
2. Do you think they will be walm enough? It's around 2 degrees out at the moment and even though the shed seams a tad warmer than outside it still seams chilly and I always worry about them.
3. How else can I make sure my piggies stay warm? They have lots of hay stuffed igloos and cuddle cups. Are there any other methods or secret tips I need to know?
I think that's all my questions so far. Sorry for writing so much.
Thankyou x

My guinea pigs are kept indoors, but

if you want to keep the temperature at the right place, put a thermometer in the shed. If it drops below maybe about 65 degrees F, it's getting too cold. I'm not sure of the best way to keep them warm, but its important to know the temp of the shed. If you see the temp dropping more and more, then you will need to find a better way to keep it warm.

Sorry I'm not quite sure on the best way to keep the cage at the right temp, but I hope this helps. Let us know if you can figure out the temp in there now. Maybe log it over the days to see the temp change and also keep track at night. Good luck!

i would invest in a cheap microwave,so you can heat snuggle safe pads.these are very good.maybe place a cardboard box stuff with hay.i also use vet bed in the sleeping area.is there any electricity to the shed?maybe a safe heater if there is electricity.a thermometre is a fab idea.sleeping bags,eg snuggle sacks are good.you are placing blankets over the cage so that will help.snugglesafe heat pads do make a big difference,my piggies share and sit on them.

Hi,
The shed dosnt have electricity but I will pick up a microwave and some heat pads. Also a thermometer. How long do the heat pads last ? Thankyou

hi,they last between 8 and 10 hours.i put them in the hutch before i go to bed.i usually only use at night, but if day temps drop too low i place them in the day as well ! amazon were selling the pads for £9.50.maybe worth alook.

I will definitely pick a couple of these up. Thankyou

My 5 are outside in a hutch. I have snugglesafe heat pads and lots of cosies for them. My most recent additions are these

Hammock for Ferret Rabbit Guinea Pig Rat Hamster Squirrel Mice Bed Toy House | eBay

which they absolutely love. I put a heat pad underneath them. I also put pee pads inside (got from Ziggy's Piggies ) as they are much better than the pads that they come with. I also pile loads and loads and even more loads of hay in every night so they can keep warm by burrowing underneath it. My piggies have fluffy tunnels Rosewood Reversible Snuggle Tunnel on Sale | Free UK Delivery which I put a heat pad underneath and also cosies Rosewood Two-Way Hooded Bed for Small Animals on Sale | Free UK Delivery which I have found fit a snuggle safe inside. I have a hutch hugger on my hutch from Scratch and Newton Hutch Hugger™ and an old really thick merino wool blanket that goes over the front at night. They are toasty warm in the hutch.

Hope this helps.

Definitely going to order some of the cosies, they look fab. Thankyou this is really helpful

I recently bought a microwave for £40 on Amazon to heat up snugglesafe pads for piggies. Hubby didn’t like me using the one in the kitchen!
My OH doesn't have any choice! I need to heat up the snugglesafes. I always clean it afterwards with Dettox. If the old OH doesn't like me using it he can buy me another. So far he hasn't complained.
