Hello. Earlier today at around 5pm our piggie started thrashing around weirdly, not exactly a seizure but just strange movements especially in the abdominal area. I know guinea pigs can not vomit, so I’m assuming it was drool that came out and it looked green and there was lots of it. It lasted for a few minutes then she was back to normal. We took her to the vet asap and she said she looked stable and okay, they ran x rays and checked her blood glucose and everything looked okay. She said it might be the severe arthritis she has, that cause her to lose some motion in her rear end and the “vomit” was just drooling from the pain. We took her back home and now it’s 3am, and she just finished having another episode that lasted longer, around 5 minutes. I attached some videos of her strange movements. Our vets aren’t open tomorrow but even then I just want to know if this sounds like anything specific? Because she becomes right normal after they will probably tell us the same thing. We are really worried.

Hi!

HUGS

I am so sorry; this sounds very worrying. Unfortunately, all you can do is keep your piggy as comfy as possible in between episodes and hope for the best. Did the vet give you any painkiller?

She’s on painkiller long term for her arthritis and back issues (gabapentin, metacam, and butorphanol). They were only able to up the dose on the gabapentin. I woke up and she is doing good again, I’ll keep an eye on her and just hope she doesn’t have another episode. We will send the video to the vets tomorrow and see what they say. Thank you for responding.

Oh no.. I don't have any helpful advice, but I'm holding both you and your little lady in my thoughts. Stay strong!
