We're having the old carpet (widdled on by all the guineas, and full of holes courtesy of Nutmeg and Juliet) replaced with a vinyl flooring next week. Obviously we've got to move the guinea pigs out to another room while this is going on, but I am wondering how long they need to stay there - i.e, is there anything about vinyl that might affect their respiratory systems, any vapours that might need time to dissipate? The man from the carpet shop thought it would be fine, but he's not a guinea pig expert, so am hoping to get some advice here! I don't want the guineas to have to stay in the other room longer than necessary, as it's a bit cold in there. Thanks in advance!

I doubt there's anything harmful in the vinyl itself - and carpet fitters don't usually use vinyl adhesive, but sometimes they use silicone sealer the edges. I'd be happy to move guinea pigs in as soon as the silicone sealer is dry .
