When I take my guinea pig out to play or just to relax with me, whenever I pet his back he literally vibrates. i also noticed he does it when he discovers something new. Is this a bad thing? ?

He could be purring. I have noticed Twinkle does this as does Cuzzy and Fleur. I never take it as a negative thing. Your pig doesn't teeth chatter at the same time does he?

I'd say it was the fear thing, they vibrate when they are scared. Mine did this all the time when I first had them, they soon got used to me though and they don't do it anymore.

I've read that they do this when there's a new sound or feeling that they're a bit unsure of, not frightened, but a bit like saying "hey, what the hell's that?"

Sounds just like what my boar does when he's having lap time and I stroke him down his back. I really think it's a pleasure thing as he never pushes my hand away or tries to get away. Don't think you've anything to worry about. :smitten:
