do i need to wash the vetbed before i use it for the first time?

You don't have too... But I always like to put it on a quick wash before I use it...

It's totally up to you...
I use newspaper but some people use disposable puppy pads etc...
Just try a few things out and find out what suits you best...

I washed mine before use. I put newspaper under mine. Works well with my girls.

i am using fleece at the moment with newspaper underneath, but saw all the reviews on here of vet bed so ive bought some to see how it goes

I used to have a layer of newspaper, vetbed and then fleece on top (I'm back on megazorb and hay though - just because I find it easier).

I normally wash anything fabric before giving it to the piggies just to be safe (:

I washed it three times, because I read that that makes it more absorbent. I have a puppy pad under it. I've been sweeping it with a wee dustpan and brush a couple of times a day and the top stays nice and dry. No smell that I can detect, either.
