I've been looking at piggybedspreads and thought i'd try and make something similar but i came across vetbet and wondered if it was any good? Would i need to put fleece over it? How often to change it also would a 2x4 cage size go in the washing machine?

I find vet bed good. :) You don't need to put fleece over it. The wee drains through really well and it dries off quickly. You can just sweep up the poo or shake it off. I think it would last a bit longer than fleece between washes too. I don't know if it'll go in the washing machine if it's big, but worth a try, you can kinda roll it up so hopefully it will.

Hi 4piggies,

There's a review somewhere on the forum about vetbed...

We put vetbed into our boars' cage about a week ago and are so far very pleased. The piggies love it and it's a lot tidier around the flat (they had a paper and hay bedding before).

In response to your question, I would recommend vetbed. We let our piggies out at least twice a day into their litte play pen which is covered with towels. Whenever we let them out, I do a quick spot clean with the gloves on (some people have suggested getting a dustbuster type hoover and I'm thinking about it). This takes about five minutes and keeps the mess to a minimum. It used to take about half an hour to clean out all the paper and hay and then clean the plastic cage base!

We aim to be washing the vetbed about once a week or so.

If you cut your vetbed in half for your cage, you'll find it fits in the washing machine much more easily.

We got ours from: http://www.petnhome.co.uk/veterinary-bedding-c-11.html?gclid=CJLD5fr0uaMCFepc4wodvEkqcQ

It looks expensive but its a 3m roll which makes 3 beds for our cage or two in your's with a bit left over. That way, when you're wahsing one bed, you've got a clean one to slip straight in. I think they also do longer rolls.

It's quite straight forward to cut using a craft knife/stanley knife but not so easy with scissors (my wife starting trying to cut it with scissors at first!). I recommend cutting a piece which is slightly bigger than the cage floor so it fits in snuggly.

We don't use anything over the top of our vetbed. Some people say the smell is pretty bad when you use vetbed but I have to say, since we only have two piggies, there really isn't any significant change from what we used to have.

Hope that helps :)

They have vet bed on zooplus.co.uk too :) Not sure if it's cheaper, but just so you now.

well i spent all day making a piggy bedspread and its two inches too short so looks like vetbeds my new must have!
