Hi

Ok I'm trying out fleece and I must admit I'm finding it hard going, it does look a lot nicer, it must be lovely and snug for my piggies and it definitely doesn't cost as much as shavings, but it's quite an ordeal changing it every few days!

I am considering giving vetbed a go, partly because I can get one whole piece for my C&C rather than having sections like I'm having to do with the fleece and partly because I'm still not completely convinced the fleece is 'wicking' away the wee, which I know vetbed will do.
Unless of course I'm doing something wrong with the fleece, I have washed them 3 times before use and haven't used fabric conditioner, but in places it seems to stay wet or damp and I don't like the thought of that.

Anyway, is anyone out there using vetbed? and what do you put underneath it, do you still need to put puppy pads, towels, newspaper etc? I'd love to know what others experience is of it and what they do, I need some ideas as I feel like I'm struggling to find the right bedding. grrrr

Thanks

I use vetbed with newspaper underneath, the vetbed definatley stays dry on the top. only one snag, the poos sometimes get stuck inside the pile, but i guess if you had a small hand held hoover it wouldn't be a problem.

It does seem to keep drier for longer but poo can be a nightmare to get out sometimes. I have just moved back to using megazorb, better than shavings and does seem to stay cleaner than shavings and has less skin/fur irritation to my long hairs.
I find fleece the best but changed every couple of days but with a trio and a fosterling it is more convenient for me to use megazorb. I would persevere with the fleece and enjoy the multi colour combinations you can make! :))

We used fleece some time back and just found it so hard work! It smelt after just 1 or 2 days despite doing everything by the book and we too found damp patches.

After putting up with it for a while we gave up and changed to disposable bedding, trying Carefresh (too expensive), Megazorb (Too messy) and then Easibed (great!)

We had to re-think what bedding we used as our council changed our collections from weekly to fortnightly and we just couldn't get rid of all the waste (we have a big cage).

Consequently we decided to give VetBed a try and we love it! The cage lasts a good 4 or 5 days easily. We use VetBed with newspaper underneath).

It is very easy to spot clean and if you comb the VetBed out when it comes out of the washer it stays looking great and is even easier to spot clean as it doesn't clump up

Hi LennyPig

Thats great news to hear:(|) I was beginning to think I might have to stick with fleece or go back to regular bedding.:{

Do you dry your vetbed in the dryer after you have washed and combed out or do you let it dry naturally?

We do not have a dryer so after washing it is combed out (using a wide tooth comb such as the one below...) and then dried naturally...

Example of comb...

It takes just a day to dry -c

Thanks for your help, my vetbed arrived today, so looking forward to getting it in with my piggies!

Thanks also for the pic of the comb, I was wondering what sort of comb I would need.

You have been a great help, thanks again.:))

yeah thought I'd mention the sort of comb as I wouldn't want you trying to drag a normal fine toothed comb through it! It would be near impossible :))

Let us know how it goes
