I have bought some vetbed for John Anderson's new cage when it arrives.

How should it be put in the cage with what?

IE should I do something like layer of newspaper, then the vet bed on top? Or should it be something else?

And what about hay for sleeping, keep that in the bed section?
The cage comes with a hay rack for eating.

My setup is two layers of absorbent paper towels, followed by bedding made of re-claimed pulp by Care fresh brand. I have a hay feeder attached to the side of the cage, two water bottles, a pigloo, a gravity feeder, a bowl for fruit and veggies, and various toys. But keep in mind that that is just my personal setup and that I have two Cavies.

When using vetbed I think you are supposed to put newspaper underneath - I think the idea of this is the pee goes through the vetbed and the newspaper soaks it up.

Yes newspaper underneath the vet beds. I have also lined my hutches with drawer liner to prtect the wood from rotten and is so much easier to clean and hygenic too.
