I have read a few times on here people talking about vetbed, what is it? and what do you all use it for?
Sorry if its a slly question but i am new to all the guinea pig talk :)

Vet bed is a dog/cat bedding that people also use for small animals.

It is soft, and fluid soaks straight through it so does't become to wet.

I personally wouldn't use vet bed for my guinea pigs as I wouldn't fancy washing it in the washing machine where my clothes are! Plus it wouldn't be warm enough for the winter. I think people mainly use it for inside piggies.

It is really good stuff though - I have some for my dog, but it is really quite expensive.

i have vetbed in all my outdoor hutches. it is warm for them and during the winter i will put a cotton sheet on the floor of the sleeping area (on top of thevetbed) and fill it with hay. the hay can be knocked off the cotton easier than the vetbed. also they are not lying on wet shavings etc as the vetbed allows the moisture to soak straight through - keeping the pigs dryer and in turn warmer. i use a washbag that i purchased off ebay and put the vetbed in that before putting in the washing machine. any bits of hay etc stay in the bag - not the machine. i wouldn't change it for the world. this is the sort of bag i use.

Thanks for this insight. I thought it would to cold for them.
Not too sure what you mean by the cotton sheet and hay though :)

just simply an old sheet - you know like off a bed - cut into smaller pieces then place one in the sleeping area . the vetbed will still be underneath it and then i will fill the sleeping compartment with hay for them to snuggle up in. the reason i put the sheet there is because hay is difficult to get off the vetbed and with piling it up in there for warmth it's better on something that the hay brushes off easier. the rest of the hutch will just have the vetbed as usual.
