What washing detergent do you use to wash vetbed? Do you use a special kind, or just an ordinary detergent, but at a higher temperature?

I use normal washing tablets but I add a cup of vinegar to the wash too, which besides helping remove any remnants of smell is a great antibacterial agent :))

I use Paragon Flea and Tick wash. Antibacterial, fungicidal. Can use on a cold wash too. Its available from www.halononbio.co.uk :) If you go onto the drop down menu of " Halo Approves" it will take you to the menu where you choose pet products from Paragon. Can also be used diluted to clean and is very effective against fungal problems in pigs who are having treatment. I also use distilled Vinegar as @funnehmare says as it is great at removing smells also and built up hard urine :)

Also tagging @My3cuteBoys as with the problems she is having at the moment this could be really good for her :)

Thanks for the vinegar tip! White vinegar or ordinary, and do you put it in the machine drawer, or directly in with the washing?

I used to use Halo pet bedding wash but it's been discontinued :(

It is still available it is just called something else it is now called Paragon flea and tick wash. Same product just diff packaging :) I thought this so rang them and they gave me 30% off as when they changed the name they didnt tell anyone. I double checked that it is def the same product.when it arrived it was the same. The only downfall is it is a smaller bottle.

here is the link so you can get some :) @helen105281 uses it now also and finds it good. So yes... they just sold the product to Paragon. you have to go through the halo website to get it through the " halo approves " drop down menu! There my good deed for the day :) http://www.halononbio.co.uk/halo-flea-and-mite-lauundry-detergent-500ml

Dettol laundry cleanse in the conditioner drawer, tesco value detergent every time in the detergent drawer and white vinegar in the conditioner drawer too on a 30 wash

Thanks for the info! That's good to know :) Shame the bottle is smaller, but it isn't any cheaper!

I also just pop white vinegar in the softner section of the drawer. I tried putting it in with the vet bed but found it didn't work quite so well :)

Yep I use Paragon too for the pigs' stuff and Sainsburys own or Astonish for our own things.

Hello,

Sorry to butt in on this one a little late - but thought it might be useful for anyone new looking at ways to wash their vetbed. Pet N Home have just start selling vetbed detergent for cleaning vet bed!

Hope it helps someone!

I notice the website says this is good at eliminating pets odours but ... Does it kill bugs too ? - the paragon one claims to be ...

  • Antibacterial
  • Virucidal
  • Fungicidal

My outdoor guineas are on newspaper and hay so I just have one indoor piggy who's on the matting type material from Dunelm Mill (can't think of the name)

He does have an area of vet bed and fleece cozy cups - I bung all those and the matting in a horse hair filter bag in the machine - I use our general household laundry tablets which are often co op ones as I will only use cruelty free/vegan. Never use conditioner.
