Vetbed Questions

Hi, from experience I prefer fleece, I found hay and poo very hard to get off of vetbed. Although the piggies did love it as it it so comfy. There are members on here that swear by it but from my experience fleece is easier maintenance wise! :)

I find it hard to brush the hay from vet bed but at the moment it is worthwhile for us. The piggies love it. My main issue is the 4x2 piece barely fits in my washing machine lol

I bought mine here **vetfleece** on eBay and also got some of their washable training pads (they are great) :)

Yeah, it does look like it would be hard to get hay out of. I really like fleece but I was looking for something else to try in the cage :)

Thank you for the link!

I use vetbed in my 2 cages, and have done for years. I clean the piggies out every morning and night, and I find that a good wire brush removes all the hay without any problems. I then use a dustpan and brush to sweep out the poo. After a few washes, the vetbed will soften and it gets easier to fold up and fit in the washing machine. I use a horse washbag to stop fur blocking the machine.

I use vet bed in high traffic areas and my piggies love it, it keeps them dryer than fleece in my experience and whicks pee wonderfully. I brush the hay off with a rubber dog brush, the only thing I don't like is that I can only fit one piece in my washer at a time.

How big is your washer?
I can fit 11kg in mine I'm not sure if it would fit in with their fleece and towels.

I find it easier to brush hay off vetbed than fleece, its also heavy so you can vacuum it if necessary. I found it locked wee into the under layers better and didn't smell like wet fleece does. My washing machine is only a 5kg one and my cage is 160cm x 80cm so I cut vet bed into two bits which has made it easier to get it the in machine in one go. The green back vetbed seems to soften up more than the rubber back which makes it easier to handle after a few washes. Vetbed shrinks quite a lot (had mine over a year and still shrinking) so don't cut to size, I bend mine up the edges of the cage. Have found the pros far outweigh the cons with using vetbed.

I put vetbed under my fleece and I have cut it into large strips so it fits in my washer, this works great for me :D

We use vetbed and love it. We have two sets and wash every week, with daily sweeping out/hoovering. I find a good stiff brush gets the hay out. Underneath we have newspaper and in the 'high pee areas' a layer of wood pellets for absorption. It stays smells free. Vet bed lasts forever--our first lot we've had nearly 4 years and it is still going strong. It also dries quickly after washing.
