Hi,

I am now seriously considering of purchasing either vetbed or fleece for my piggy's indoor cage, that she is currently living in.

So that it's much tidier/cleaner and cheaper in the long-term.

However if I use either of them, will she be warm enough without having to put heaps of hay in as a bedding?

Also throughout summer months, will she be too hot if I use vetbed or fleece?

Is it more comfortable than megazorb?

Which one is better vet bed or fleece?!

What do you recommend!?

Let me know what you think!

Thank-you

Lessie

Hi there and good evening.

Had my piggies since october and for most of that time I've had them on Megazorb.
Turned out the local farm supplier has that and eco bed!

Found it a fantastic base for the piggies but they still fairly slipped on the base unless it was REALLY filled up. It was very cheap and certainly economical.

I've just put in vet bedding in the cage (2x5 c&c with 2x2 upper level) and for the past two days it seems great.

(Used to use it in my lionhead's cages with no problems)

I've lined the base with newspaper and replace every day as required.
Where the litter tray is I have newspaper over the vetbed and the same in their home with another layer of vetbed on top (They love to pee in their home..)
I ordered a 5x1.5m roll so plenty to go around.

The areas where the litter tray are pigloo are also have seperate sections of vet bed so quicker to change as the rest of the cage doesn't get soiled as much.
I certainly will have a lot to wash though!

Vet bedding is great. Certainly easy to keep clean through brushing down in the mornings/evening.

From what I have seen it's certainly comfier than megazorb.
The piggies would never lie down outwith their home but as soon as the vetbed was in they just Shlump down, stretched out and away we the fairies.

Cannot comment on fleece but I'm sure it wont be long before someone comes along :)

If yo have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Best set up IMO, is fleece with towels under and megazorb in the litter trays.

If you place their water bottle, food and hay near the litter its relitivly easy to potty train your piggys, wee wise anyway. Ofcourse most will poop everywhere but they are easy to clean up.

I use fleece with washable inco pads underneath. I then bought some vet bed from Ebay and use that in their wooden house and under their big log roll, on top of the fleece, for additional warmth.

I have previously used medibed / megazorb / aubiose / hay and newspapers but have found the above combination to be the best. Its easy to clean, stays ever so dry and I think is the most hygenic and dustfree option you can get :)

I use a layer of newspaper/towel and then fleece on top for extra absorbancy.
I have 13 boars and 6 cages so apart from shavings fleece was the most comfy for my pigs and money saving option for us.

I think its much softer on there feet, apart from outright cost the washing is the only long term expense, its easier to detect issues or problems with the urine, absorbancy is good and its environmentally friendly,
and heres the big thing for me, i loved vetbed when i used it for my sick piggy, but most of my pigs didnt do well on it and it costs so much to buy where as fleece doesn't, i also found it a pain to spot clean compared to fleece,

I would definantely try fleece, if you want to try vetbed without spending heaps only to find your pigs done work on it you can always get some offcuts from other members who dont want it anymore or even rescues or vets;)
