Hi Guinea pig experts. I have bought some vetbed for my skinny pigs hideys but it doesn't seem to be wicking away the pee. Should I have washed it before using it for the first time?

I think u need to was 3 times before use x

If it's real vetbed vetbed (I found some of the cheaper copies not so good) it doesn't need washing to work. I wash mine once without using conditoner to get rid of any lose fibres and dirt from the cutting process. You need an absorbant layer underneath, I use newspaper on top of puppy pads. Vetbed locks the moisture underneath into the absorbant layer.

I didn't realize Vetbed was a brand name. The stuff I bought wasn't cheap and had good reviews on Amazon but really doesn't seem to wick very well. I'll give it a wash and see if it's any better. If not I'll look for the Vetbed brand and try some of that.

i have vetloved vet bed,i have found you need to ensure the towels,or puppypads are not soaked from urine going through vet bed.i washed mine twice before using, its important that you do not use fabric conditioner, this prevents wicking ! i have found this greatly improved its performance.i change and wash the vetbed every four days.i inspect the underlayer every today to ensure no areas are sopping wet ! ive had my vet bed two years and it is still going strong.i find it good for the longhaired piggies.i hope your vetbed improves !
