who uses VetBed or Fleece for your cage?

do you have HAY contained in a separate area, if so how?

if not, how do you contain the hay and stop it getting all over the fleece / vetbed?

thanks! :D

oh and another question for everyone.... if you use litter trays, what is your litter of choice and how often do you change it? :))

i put hay in 1/4 of the cage and 3/4 of the cage is vetbed. some gets on the vetbed but not much, and then i just sweep it off.

the 1/4 with the hay also has megazorb under the hay because they toilet there mostly and i change that everyday....and the newspaper under the vetbed daily, brush the vetbed down and wash that every other day. :)p

I have litter trays under the hay racks and I change them every day.

I do still get hay on the fleece but I don't seem to have the same problems that everyone else does. I find a good hard shake in the garden and it's off.

However vetbed is a different story. It's hard to get the hay off that stuff I find although I have some and use it occassionally.

My boar has just been neutered and can't have hay on the floor (I normally use hay and newspaper). I want him to eat hay, so I've stuffed hay into a toilet roll which means he can eat the hay without it going everywhere. It seems to be working well.

my hay gets everywhere which is what makes my piggies happy. I brush the fleeces before washing them and then any leftover excess before putting it back in. Piggies are happy = I'm happy...

Yes pigs love hay... I like to think we get the best of two worlds here. Lots of hay to play in and I still don't have to spend all my time cleaning fleece from hay. I have a crate right by the cage for hay. It has a paper based kitty litter in it and I find they do a lot of peeing in there and it keeps the smell down

I put cardboard boxes filled with megazorb directly under the hayrack. The piggies use this as their favoured toilet area and it also catches any hay that fall down. My piggies just love sitting in their shoebox..

Mine have specially built "hay trays" out of correx with a 1.5 inch lip to prevent the hay being dragged out. I have had to lower the lip for my old girls, so they do spread their hay a little, but I 'catch' that hay with some cheap rubber-backed mats laid in front of the hay tray. I've not had a problem with hay on the fleece since using the hay trays and mats. Pictures are called for I think!
