Ok I have 3 white guineas. I can't decide whether I should get chocolate colour to hide the "beans" or white to hide the hair...

Votes please:))

?

I have found chocolate doesnt hide the "Beans" because it gets so covered in white hair you can then spot them! So i would vote white. :)
Does it not come in white with choclate paw prints? ;)

heehee I wish. Thanks for the advice - I take it you have white piggies as well as your very lovely black one in the profile pic? :))

:)

His cage mate is a mismarked himi :) So even with the black fur in there it seems to show up. *sigh* doesnt always all come off in the wash either. Ive given up. Atleast its clean hair now!
I would say poos will show up more on white, from my experince of my partially white hay loft, but if you poo clear every day it doesnt seem to bother me. Also, dark fleece makes it hard to poo clear as you cant ALWAYS see if theres one left in the corner, *esp if you have a hayloft creating a dark area, or a ramp. :P

yeah it's the poo clearing that is putting me off the whole fleece/vetbed thing. So I was kinda wanting something that didn't matter as much if I got a bit lazy heehee!

Do you have a hand vac for cleaning?x

I know some people do, but my fleece only covers the base of the cage, So the hover tries to suck that up too! i find the best thing to do is fold it all up into the middle *like a parcel* carry it outside and shake it off onto the flower bed. Its a very good fertiliser. Unfortunatly my dog has decided she likes the taste of piggy poo *rolls eyes. Disgusting dog!* so I'm not aloud to do this. Hehe. So i just fold it into a parcel, so all the bits in the corners end up in a smaller area so you can easily use a litter scoop *like the ones they sell for cats, but find one with small holes as piggy poo falls through some of them*
Personally i find it easier just to pick them up then wash my hands.
I also sometimes fold it into said parcel, and tip them onto the smaller hay loft fleece, then this hay loft fleece can be emptied into a small bin *its suposed to be used for the stuff in your kitchen for compost, i can get a picture if you like the idea* Inside this bin is a little green bag that tescos sell, it is compostable and for me, who uses fleece towel then newspaper, i change them, poo clear the next day which is emptied into small bag, then i fill the small bag up with the next days poo and the newspaper.

I know thats a long answer... but i hope its comprehensive.

The reason i use fleece etc is

Its just as quick to clean out
The sawdust(or substitute) doesnt get kicked eveywhere
It looks nicer in my room
And ofcouse the piggies love it! they popcorn when its all fresh. I love it.

Ooh, can I ask where do you get the chocolate colour vetbed from ? I have lots of different colours, the latest I bought is magnolia x) so that would be a lovely contrast x)
I've only seen one piece but it wasn't the size I needed :(
I find after washing vetbed, giving it a hoover with a hand vac (or your household one) when it's completely dry helps - all but one of my 12 piggies have white hair so know what you mean :)

Thanks Connie - yes I know what bins you mean and yep that makes sense! I know what you mean about washing hands being easier than using a vac! Thanks for the handy tips re the fleece too. I think i'm going to try that.
I also know a few dogs that love guinea poo, and have used them as vacuums before :(|);)

And GP slave i just searched on ebay - here's the link to it - lots of different colours...what do you think about my choice though? ?/

I'm stuck tbh :{ The dark vetbed does disguise the poops but illuminates the white hairs and vice verse. If you plan on poop scooping daily and washing the fleece every 5-7 days, a lighter colour may be the option, I always run my hands across and gather any hair into a ball. Watch out for sling shot poops on this stuff though because of the thickness, I've had poops end up across the other side of the room rolleyes much to the amusement of my family :(|) :x

Had fleece for the play area and to be honest found it a pain. Looked a mess plus it smelt and we're only taking after 2/3 hrs here. I've sawdust covered with carefresh in my cage and whilst it is more expensive after a day there is no smell. I am guessing with fleece you'd be constantly cleaning.

Think the stuff in question here is vetbed. I have 12 piggies all on vetbed cut to size and with good husbandry, it doesn't smell :))
Fleece blankets are ok, I have used them but was constantly straightening them out and changing every 2-3 days. Vet bed can be left for 7 days if used properly, I do a full deep clean every 5-7 days now instead of twice a week with fleece :)

I think I would go for the white - Misty's hair gets *everywhere* so white fur would show up on brown. Plus if one of them has blood in urine etc you spot it instantly - really helped with Storm xx

Ah great advice posiesparkles i was thinking aesthetically but your medical reasoning has sealed the deal :-)
gps your poo story made me laugh out loud ha ha ha Xx

Hum, it is quite amusing but sooo true rolleyes These 'flying missiles' travel at quite a speed :(|) Our set up is over six feet tall and my daughter tends to sit on the floor close to the pen...I have to stifle chuckles when she becomes the target. especially when the piggies are racing around. She just carries on unphased :(|)

There are many other colours then white and chocolate :)

I've got two old white pieces, which are great for poorly piggies as you can see if anything's not right; weeping wounds etc.

I recently brought a grey piece with black paw prints, I'm planning on getting a stripey piece soon :) There's all the colours under the sun, Pink, Blue, Green, Purple, Red etc. :)

Ordered some more vet bedding which has just arrived x)
The chocolate is such a lovely colour and looks a great contrast against the magnolia - had some white as well, the thickness of this one is unreal. The piggies will love messing it all up :(|)
I like to do their pens in different colours, one colour in their play areas and another in their bedrooms :{
Now, someone mentioned stripes 8:) ;)

Yep :)) I have pink, lilac and mulberry for the girlies, black, grey and mink brown for the lads. They roll on on it when I clean them out and popcorn like nutters :{
It's fab and washes lovely :))

Oooh, so which colour did you go for?

I have burgundy for the girls and blue for Finley! :)) The burgundy is good as it doesn't show up the poops too much but is still pretty! But good idea about blood in urine as i often wonder if i would actually notice it with the burgundy colour....

Did someone say STRIPES?!

Waaaaaaaaaaant! :)) Never seen stripes, where is it sold?!

i went for white in the end but I'm thinking of getting other colours cos it looks a bit samey :-) Xx
