After finding out about vetbed and fleece, I have decided to give one a go. Those who use Vet bed, where do you buy it from. Somewhere online preferably if anybody has a favoured store.

Fleece users, where do you buy the fleece from. Can you just buy fleece blankets over towels. I think our market sells fleece on a roll, would that do. Is a specially made fleece cage liner better. I'm tempted to have one made but id probably need two for wash days etc and they are not cheap. I would love to make one myself but I am really not the best sewer haha!

Sorry if these questions have all been answered many times before. Just interested in peoples opinions. Thanks in advance :)

Most people seem to buy from Ebay for both Fleece and Vetbed - you can get patterned vet bed now too!

The thing to remember with fleece is to wash it without fabric softener about 3 times before you use it.

Can't help with the vetbed as I get mine from an online Aussie supplier - who imports it from the UK!

The fleece I get from two dollar shops or discount department stores like
K-mart very cheaply. I'm sure you have similar in the UK. You can cut fleece to size and it won't unravel so I buy the large polar fleece throws that usually come out for sale here every winter.

I have also discovered K-Mart here sells for about the equivalent of 3 pounds baby cot waterproof mattress protectors which turn out to be two layers of fleece with a waterproof liner sewn in the middle. It can be cut to size without unravelling and the fleece is already ready to wick. Perfect as a cage liner or lap pad. You might find similar in the UK.

Thanks guys. I cleaned the cage out tonight and randomly decided to wash some fleece blankets I have and put some towels down and gave it a go with the fleece over towel. The pigs definitely prefer it. Pumba is quite a jumper but even Timone was jumping up all over the cage and making very happy noises indeed. I wasn't sure how they would react but I think fleece is going to be the way I go. Although still a bit tempted to try vet bed. Will wait a few days and see what I think after cleaning out.

I will check out eBay for vetbed.

Another little tip is to let the vet bed dry before you shake it and brush it to go in the machine otherwise you can get a little wet!
I use a mixture of fleece I've got from fabric land by the metre and cheap fleece throws, Ikea do some big green ones for a couple of pounds these are great and a good colour as well. I put pieces of vet bed on top of the fleece in places that get heavily soiled.
I'd recommend getting a washing bag so you don't get a washing machine full of hair and hay.

Yes, I've had wee come back into my open mouth and all over my face not allowing the vet bed to dry before I shake it out! The mouth was open because I was laughing at the neighbour and his new dog while I was shaking out the vet bed in the garden. So, good advice katiepops!

:(|) It's one of those things you find out the hard way and only do once! :(|)

Haha. Well ill be sure to remember to keep my mouth closed when shaking out vet bed. Thanks for the tip!

I think I may be finding researching cage linings far too exciting. Sad or what?! I spent about 2 hours looking online at vetbed and cage accessories last night :red :))
