Vet recommendations?

Hi,

No idea if this was the right place to put this.. I can not find any vets that take on guinea pigs or really know what they're doing with them. I'm in the south greater manchester area and would appreciate any vet recommendations! - I am able to travel but ideally the furthest I would go south is macclesfield and north towards Ashton. I have looked on the list of vets in the north west but I can’t find any that are relatively close, that are taking new patients and that are open in the next few days!

I apologise if this is in the wrong place but thank you for any help provided!
 
@YvonneBlue uses Ashleigh Vets who are exotic specialists They’re not open now but should be open tomorrow but I’m not sure they’re taking on new clients. I know @YvonneBlue has always been happy with them

I live near Rochdale and I have been using Veterinary Surgery Rochdale | Valley Vetcare for over a year with my guinea pigs. They’re not exotic specialists but Vince has been brilliant with my guinea pigs, they’re closed now but are open tomorrow but I’m not sure if they’re taking on new clients. Vince is working tomorrow, I know as I have an appointment with him at 8.30am. They usually open the phone lines about 10-15 minutes before they open at 8

@Bradshaw Piggies also lives in Manchester and may be able to recommend someone x

thank you so so much! i could go to rochdale thats not that far - hope your appointment tomorrow goes well!

the only thing with ashleigh vets is if you try an book an appointment online it says cat or dog 😔

No problem 🙂 Thank you. If it’s an exotic vet you’re after, you could phone Ashleigh when they open in the morning. I’m sorry it only gives you the option of cat or dog when you try and book online. I hope you can get an appointment at either vets x

honestly i just need a vet to tell me what to do next with my sick pig so either will do - whatever is cheapest probably! thank you so much for the help! x

I’m sorry you have a poorly guinea pig 😞 I think a consultation at my vets is around £40 I’m not sure how much it is at Ashleigh. If you want a same day appointment at valley vets, I’d phone around 7.45am when they open the phone lines as Vince gets booked up quick x

thank you so much! i will definitely try to someday this week as i am busy all day tomorrow ☹️
 
Ashleigh Vets in Chorlton are currently taking on new exotics patients (it said so on their Facebook page today). They open at 8am. Their list fills up quickly so call as soon as you can. An exotics consultation is now £62 (I know as I was there last week). They have a few exotics specialists, they are all good but Aiden the head vet is exceptional (although his people skills aren't always). Our local rescue Tiny Paws use Ashleigh too.

Oh wow! £62 though is super pricey for a consult but if its proper good animal care then its a pretty penny worth to pay! I also got a response from Wright and Morten Small Animal Veterinary Hospital. £35 for a consultation there I just don’t know if they’re any good! I will definitely consider ashleigh vets as youve vouched for them!

Sometimes it's worth paying for the expertise. General vets don't always have enough knowledge of guinea pigs and you end up spending more money on multiple visits.

I can also recommend Ellie Whitehead (the Guinea Pig Vet). However, she is in Matlock which is a bit too far for me to travel on a regular basis.
 
I’d say Ashleigh Vets too. Aidan is very knowledgeable. Lianne was great but has just left unfortunately.

@YvonneBlue Have you ever seen Lourdes?

Yeah that is true! I think ill see how much I have to spend comfortably and make a decision. I do need her to be looked at as she is declining.

Matlock is over an hour and a half away from me so I definitely won’t be travelling to her unfortunately.

No, I have seen Federica and Aris but not Lourdes. Lianne will be missed, she is a great vet. She cared for Mavis when she had lymphoma. She stayed late on the day we had her PTS, so that she could take care of her.

That’s so lovely of her. She had been there so long I had hoped she might stay and become a partner in the practice. We were gutted when we saw she was leaving. We always asked to see Lianne or Aidan. Were you happy with the treatment from Federica?

This week was our first experience with her. She seems very nice but I suppose only time will tell if she knows enough about piggies.xc
