Hi does anyone know how much is the vet bill just for an ear infection? Because i think my gp has one i dont think its very dangerous because he still eats runs about and stuff but yesterday i searched up on google why is my guinea pig shaking its head and i ended up knkwing he has an ear infection I'm very scared if it gets worst

I think the main cost you'll have to pay is for the medicine. Which shouldn't be a fortune at all.

He really needs to be seen by a vet soon, as it can't be comfortable for him.

Hope he gets on ok! x

At our Vet you would pay £11 consultation plus med's so probably around £40ish, depending on what is required.

Hi! it very much depends on the vet how much you have to pay. However, it is very important that you see a vet promptly with a suspected ear infections, as they can kill or permanently damage if left untreated. Any ear infection requires an antibiotic.
An alternative possibility would be rabbit ear mites, but that is best for the vet to decide.

Unfortunately, vet cost is the most expensive part of any pet ownership. It would be good if you saved up a bit every week, so you can see a promptly whenever needed; cost can quickly mount into the hundred of pounds when you come up against a serious issue.

There are no frills basic care vet chains especially in urban areas in Britain (like vets4pets), but they are not necessarily piggy savvy. However, they should be able to diagnose and treat an ear infection properly.

Vet bills can be a worry, however I think if you take your piggy to a vet now the cost will be much cheaper than if you leave it and it becomes worse. Best of luck, i hope your piggy gets better soon :)

I guess I got lucky with my vet, the visit and meds were only £15 :woot:

Mine is £35! They used to be free for follow up appointments but charge everytime now. Another one near me is £18. Ear mites can cause head shaking too, and they will scratch as well.

Everyone thanks but i really dont know how much it would be near me i hope I'm lucky and inhave a nice vet I'm very worried about him i dont even know how long he had this for and do i need an apointment first?

Yes you need to book and I usually can get an appointment the same day. They can tell you the cost when you call.

You can always ring up your local clinics to ask for their consultation fees before you make an appointment.

Please be aware that exotics/small animal specialists (as which guinea pigs are classed at) will demand more, but you should be able to see a vet that is competent with guinea pigs.
We have got a recommended piggy savvy UK vet locator on the top bar. Guinea Pig Vet Locator

Please do NOT dither too long, as the problem won't go away on its own and will get worse the longer you wait.

My bills at the two different vets I use are £17 for the consultation and about £6 for the antibiotic - both of mine have an "open surgery on a Saturday morning (and most mornings ) where you can just turn up between opening time and 11-30 and wait and someone will see you - most vets have a very good website and it should tell you on there if they have an open surgery and the days and times.

When I took Sadie to my vet for her hay poke, consultation, eye drops and painkillers cost £37. I was happy with that. Whenever any of my previous piggies crossed the bridge, they always send a sympathy card!

Thanks for the information
