Hi all

Thinking of moving my boys onto vet bed, as it seems more cost effctive han megazorb or ecobed which is what i currenly use.

Just wondering whether the who use it or have, could give me some more info?

How often do you have to wash vetbed? Does it take a long time to try (i dont have a tumble dryer)
Anyone recommend any cheap places i can get t from? And what do you put underneath it (does this need to be changed more often?)

Thanks for the help :)

Hi - have only just started using Vet bed but the piggies seem to like it and relaxing on it! The only down side it that hay really sticks to it.
I got mine from Pet N Home (just via internet searching) and they have an off cuts section where you might find a piece that you need without getting a roll.

I like the fact you can just take it out of the hutch and whack it to flick off the poohs (after warning small children in the area:))
I use quite a bit of newspaper underneath to soak up the wee and change that every couple of days.

Thanks! I'm currently debating vet bed and fleece, not sure as to which yet. Fleece does seem to be a lot cheaper though!

I much prefer vet bed, it needs to be washed much less, and smells less. :)

I do like the sound of it. But i have 4 cages, and would two lots for each, for a change whilst washing. It seems to cost a lot of money, especially for the amount i need!

Oh why cant it be cheaper :(

i have 5 cages. i let the pigs out for a run round while i wash and dry it. so dont need to buy extra

If you do decide to go for vetbed, which I have to say is great by the way, I personally would go for the green backed sort, because it dries quicker than the nonslip and goes in your washer easier as it is more flexible, the other is slightly stiffer.

Well...I am probably in the minority, but I am not so keen on vet bed. From personal experience, it lasts no longer than fleece and is really hard to get clean and restore to original fluffiness (it sort of goes like a sheep skin effect after a wash, and needs to be brushed through)

I use fleece and towels and I am happy with this but I have never tried vetbed so I'm not sure if it's better..

I have four hutches and use fleece because it's cheap:))

How do you stop the hay going all over the fleece? And how often do you change the towels and fleece?

Thanks for the advice!

I use large corner litter trays filled with carefresh or wood shavings and I hook the hayrack to the tray then the hay falls into the tray and not on the fleece:))

Some of my piggies toliet mostly in the trays so I only change the fleece/towels every three/four days but spot clean everyday it's easy to use a cat scoop to pick them up:)

For piggies that toliet all over then every two to three days to change.

I use a single duvet cover to put the towels/fleece in then tie it up and put it in the machine

This is great, I was going to post a thread about moving to fleece too. I have always used wood shavings, decent chunky stuff but after being a member here and seeing so many different set ups I'm thinking of switching to make life easier, cost friendly and to decrease the risk of any respiratory infections (its never happened to me but i do worry)

I'm thinking of using fleece, a thick double layer, is newspaper ok underneath?

any other tips for the use of fleece?
