Has anyone used vet bed with Guinea pigs? I was wondering if it was cheaper for my Guinea pigs...

I use vet bed I put it under the fleece to absorb any urine from the fleece then under the vet bed I use towel's then under the towels I put puppy pads :D

Vetbed is generally used instead of fleece.
From what I've heard it's fabulous, especially for skinny pigs. But I have heard that it can be a bit of a bugger to get hay off as it sticks to it a lot.
You need to put an absorbent layer underneath - either towels or puppy pads or something else to soak up the urine as it is not at all absorbent.

I use vet bed place a fleece liner or puppy pads underneath.vet bed needs to be changed every three days, good idea to use a brush to get debrie out,eg hay, hair etc.then place in a wash bag, into machine ideally at 60 degrees.it is very comfortable for piggies.:)

I only use puppy pads and a nice layer of Fitch! Am I doing something wrong?

I use vet bed on top of puppy pads in the girls pet carriers that they sleep in.

A rubber brush is excellent for removing hay, we got a handheld one from Amazon.

Kate, don't you have a C&C cage? Or a homemade one? I'm sure IV seen it and it's huuuuuge!

I'm going to get a nice big pet carrier as the ones I have are for the hamsters so I wouldn't think of putting a piggy in one.

Where do you get Vetbed from? If you use it in the piggies beds, then it might be OK in the run/ pen for mine. Its 1m x 1m so it might be costly?

Yes, it's just a puppy pen!

I only use the vetbed in the pet carriers as they seem to wee mostly in there! I just have puppy pads on the actual floor area.

I got my vetbed from Amazon.

Kate are the puppy pads OK without anything on top of them? Do they move around?

If piggy nails don't tear them, then puppy pads will be fine in the pen on their own! All I have to do is roll up and throw away.

Do you stick them down?

I line the correx of my c&c with puppy pads then vetbed everywhere on top. I have the vet bed cut so theres a small section that the hideys sit on top of- i change that part every day as well as the pads underneath and any other wet pads.. Then it all gets stripped out and changed after distinfecting the cage every 3 days.

I love vetbed! Great for my arthritic old lady too

We haven't found that the puppy pads move around at all, no we don't stick them down.

The puppy pads will hold a wee or two and then we change them. Yes, just roll them up and throw them away :)

I don't use them myself, but I know someone esle on here said they used kids disposable bed mats (Pampers or Huggies) which they bought off of Amazon. I think these do actually sort of stick too, so that might be useful to check out if you are worried your pigs will burrow under puppy pads.

I use a large (double bed size) waterproof sheet with a cotton top.
I cut this to the exact size of my cage and put a fleece cage liner on top.
The waterproof sheet part rarely needs washing, but if something does leak through the cage liner then the sheet helps to protect the correx underneath.

I used to use vet bed, it was great and the piggies loved it! I ended up changing to fleece liners as the more piggies I got and the bigger the cages became it just was too much to wash. It was ok while I was using puppy pads underneath, but the pads were costing too much due to cage size so I started using furniture moving blankets underneath (uhaul) which worked great, but by the time I washed everything it was taking forever and so many washes. However if you only had one cage it would work great and the piggies loved to stretch out on it! I now just use it inside hidies and for my piggie with arthritis X

No not at all, I just choose to use these things .I find the vet bed under the fleece helps absorb urine from the fleece then the towels and puppy pads helps the vet bed. Its what works for you that matters :D

The best thing I like about vetbed is that you can safely wash the original stuff (green backed) at 90 deg if you've had a piggy who was poorly and want to make sure you kill anything nasty. Fleece would probably shrink at that temp.

Hi
Would vet bed with a thick layer only newspaper underneath work in an outdoor hutch?
I'm just fed up of the shavings mess and think this would be warmer in winter
