Well, i've spoke to my Mum and Dad and we've decided to get fleece or vet bed as the bedding for my Guinea Pigs. I didn't think my Dad would agree but he has. :) Probably cos it means less trips to the pet shops for sawdust and much cheaper! :)) Anyway, my Dad just asked me if it's ok to use in a rabbit hutch aswell. Does anyone know if it would be ok or is it best to stick with sawdust for them? Also, he was wondering how it has to be washed. Can you just wash it with other clothing items or does it have to be washed in a special way? Anyone with advice will be a big help! Thanks :)

i wash mine seperately. is it an outside hutch your rabbits are in?i dont use fleece in my rabbits hutch but do have sheets down and the have fleece blankets to snuggle into

I wash mine either on its own (obv on a small wash cycle or in with the dogs or horses stuff)

I have fleece not vetbed mainly because of ther price (i got my fleeces 2 for 3pounds from asdas)

not sure about a hutch i cant see why not though. I think many people dont like sawdust/shavings on here as i think it can cuuase respiratory issues. I used to use aubiose which i loved but now they are in my bedroom its too messy !

I recently swapped my boys onto fleece in their hutch for the winter to give them some extra warmth, so the upper level is fleece with towels underneath and the bottom level is carefresh. I've not found any problems with it, at first they were a bit skeptical and kept chewing it but now they realise it doesnt taste of anything they are much better and its easy to clean and much warmer for them :)

I think vetbet/fleece is brill for rabbits as they tend to be more select with where they wee... My lot stinks up vetbed in less than two days. Fleece lasts longer, maybe because they love the vetbed so much so they do all their sleeping (and also weeing) on it?

I give it a good shake before washing it. I don't use a washing bag but probably should.

I have vet bed, although you could use either. Wash it inside an old duvet cover, stops any bits coming off inside your mums washer. My guineas love theirs, less messy than sawdust and in the long run has to be cheaper too.

I don't like vetbed for anymore than 2 guinea-pigs, I found it smelt quite quickly even when brushed off twice daily and changed twice a week. I think I've seen from some of your posts that you've got 2 guinea-pigs, is that right? I used vetbed in my hutches and it was Ok for a bit but after a while it just looked dirty and smelt a lot of the time. Sorry I'm not trying to put you off it I just wanted to tell you some of the bad points I have found with it too because when I got it all I heard were the good points. I now use it on the upstairs bit on one of my guinea-pig's cage and I use woodshavings on the bottom of the cage. I've never tried fleece sorry.
