Very Shy Piggies

Hi everyone. I just adopted two female guinea pigs for my Reilly. They are about 1 1/2 year old sisters. They're very cute, but extremely shy. Whenever I go to pick them up, they'll squeal and run away. Even when I pat them, they tense up.
I'm assuming/hoping that over time they will get used to being picked up and held, but any tips for shy piggies?
