Boars!

Today started normally the boys were snuggled up on their vetbed, off i went to work and came home. Put the boys out in the run this aftynoon but since putting them back home (after cleaning it out) there has been none stop teeth chattering (very loud), puffing, Artie keeps pawing the ground, chasing in circles, nose offs etc for about ten mins, it then calms down and they go back to snuggled up munching. This then starts up again after ten mins.

This has gone on since 3pm this afternoon. :(

What on earth is up with them? And what can i do? They have been fine for the past fifteen months!

The only things i can think thats got into them is the sudden change in weather, I'm very stressed at the moment, with home life and just myself really, the new routine with me working I have a new routine on the mornings and evenings.

They were a little like this in the spring, with mounting nose offs etc could it up the season?

Please help, any advice or support is very much needed I feel like sitting down and sobbing at the moment!

Many many thanks
Laura xxxxxxx

Thank you my dear, its awful and I just don't know what to do for the best, they have had such a strong bond since babies :( :(

Thank you for the hugs though :)

I don't have boar's either (but i do loves them:))) i get worried if my girl's have fight's so i know how upsetting it is (especially as it's not a regular tiff like in my herd) the only thing you can really do is keep checking on them to make sure it dont get serious:(

It is hard starting a new job as well as your cosy business and personal life, i have just recently started a job am supposed to be doing slimming world (so home cooking) going gym cleaninin 4 bed 3 storey house sorting out 3 kid's while OH sits on ass and moan's, so i do feel for you but it will get easier and into a better routine after a few week's xx

Haha! and i thought sows were easier....rolleyes :)) Its so out of the blue and unexpected I just want to give them both a good shake (not literally!) and say look what you could be throwing away they have such a lovely bond.

Ohh thank you, i know itll get easier with the juggling part haha i cant imagine how tired you must be with three kids too! Phew busy. I think the boys are struggling with the early morning starts at six for the breakie so thats what probs the huge fuss is all about! :))

Hopefully they'll sort their differences out soon (tonight i hope )

Thank you for your support, ill keep a close eye on the two.

Sometimes, it can help separating them for a few hours to give them time to calm down again. They are not sounding like they are going to fall out any moment.

Thank you, I have actually done just that! Arties with my OH on one side of the room, Harvey with me enjoying some cuddles, and I'm giving them both a lecture in 'being a kind piggie to your room mate', i don't think however they are listening to me. :))

Phew piggie care can certainly be hard work some times!

Oh gosh, naughty Harvey and Artie :... our piggies really do put us through it sometimes! It's horrid watching them act differently than normal to each other isn't it! My nerves couldn't take it when i was bonding Finley and Mabel, the puffing and fur standing on end was enough to make my heart jump out of my mouth! It was horrid to see Mabel like it!

Hope the boys can sort their differences out, are they going through the hormonal stage? I guess they are just challenging each other, who is normally the dominant pig? Hope they are all settled and back in their shed cuddling with each other :)

thats why I'm scared to have boys - it sounds very hard and upsetting :( i hope things get better

is it 2 boars you have?

sorry i cant help but send you love and best wishes :(

How did the boys' time-out work? I had this happen with Baldric and Edmund a couple of months ago (Edmund was about 8 months then). He was really going for Baldric, teeth clacking, snorting and hackles raised. He was prowling around Baldders looking for a chance to bite him.

I took him out for a couple of hours - in a spare cage a few feet away. Popped him back when he was squeaking for Baldric cos he was missing him and he went straight back into being horrible. Separated them again, overnight this time and the next morning Edmund went back in for breakfast and has been as good as gold ever since.

I did pop a teddy in for him as I thought it would help - Edmund ignored it but Baldric abused it something rotten. Watching a skinny at it with a stuffed toy (it was an aardvark) is an image that will stay with me for a long time! Bizarre.

why do males do this - fighting? if they been ok for 14 months and suddenly go for each other - strange :(

How are they getting along now?

Afternoon all,

They aren't squabbling today. Just not 'speaking' to one another, Harveys sat near Artie watching the world go by and Arties happily munching.

The half an hour separation seems to have done the trick, I think as it was quite windy yesterday whilst the boys were out they could smell the girls in the run too. So thats what I'm thinking might of caused the upset.

The pigs mean too much to me, i keep saying to my OH their going to make my hair fall out one day with all the stress! haha! rolleyes It is awful seeing them out of character through.

No they've both in June came out of their hormonal stage, as they went through it between six weeks and a year so it should be all settled by now. I really think its with the wind yesterday, the girls were out in the run too in the main garden area (where the boys were) and i think they must of smelt them!
No boars here either but I hope yours can sort themselves out :)

Boars are wonderful, they do make such loving pets but i guess with all pairing there is no guarantee. Thank you for the vibes!

I have three boars all together, one single and neutered, and two bonded Harvey and Artie.

Thank you so much Suzy to take time to reply i really appreciate it. I'm so pleased Edmund and Baldric are back to being friends again, the thought of a pig humping a aardvark is such a funny thought.

Thank you for the cuddley toy idea through I'm going to pop one in the hutch now with them so if they need to they can take their manly urges out on the toy and not each other! I really think it was as i said above, the girls being out yesterday and the wind. Not a good combination!

The time out worked a treat though, they havent (touch wood) had a grumble since.
