Varnish for outdoor run?

What have people used to varnish their outdoor runs to protect it from water? I am using ronseal for the exterior....but not sure what for interior of run( the place they're most likely to chew) 98)

I painted mine with B&Q's own "Timbercare" it makes it waterproof and is also safe to animals

Be warned, just used the Pets at Home wood stain for the first time and it stinks! ;D Hubby wondered what I had been up to when he got home! Says ok to put pets in after 24 hours, but I would leave it a few extra days as the smell was very strong.
