Has anyone seen the adverts saying that it can kill 99.9% of bacteria and i am thinking this might be a great idea as i only wash my fleece on a 30C wash to stop it shrinking

what does everyone else think?

not seen the adverts, obviously;),but it sounds good, doesn't it? And really, piggy bedding doesn't have to be sterile... c'mon, they poo in their food all the time and live through it :))

I was thinking of other types of bacteria that might end up in the cage from foods rather than just poop bacteria

does sound like a good idea, esp as the weather is changing - that cold weather kills off a lot of those airborn nasties.

I think it might be good to do something like that every once in a while or when a piggy is ill, but generally I don't think anti-bacterial stuff is good. They kill all bacteria, even the good ones that we need, and the anti-bacterial rinse water destroys micro organisms that purify the waste water in the city water works.

I don't think a sterile environment is good for anyone else than those who need it because of a very poor immune system.

Regular washing powder should be fine most of the time, just as regular washing up liquid or vinegar works for the cage. If piggies get fungal infections or bugs then something harsher is probaly a good idea, but not for every day use.

Everyone do what they think is best, I've noticed that the US and the UK too seems to be more into the anti-bacterial stuff, maybe you have other strains of bacteria than we? Problem is it's a vicious circle. The more anti-bacterial stuff we use, the more bacteria and viruses learn to adapt and resist.

Very true. Maybe if you hang them out if a frost is forecast, the vetbed, not the piggies:)). this will kill off any bacteria.

have the problem live in a flat with no garden and before you suggest a freezer not going to fit!

If you're worried about bacteria then try it, I think it will do what the package says, kill 99,9% of the bacteria. Maybe check with a small piece first, though, so that it doesn't damage fleece or the colours! You've worked too hard with your fleece for that!

I use the normal powder vanish to get rid of stains and also biological washing liquid. If you wash @ 30 and use non bio you will not get rid of any germs from poo / wee. they advise to wash things that babies have poo'd / wee'd / sick'd on @ 60 so if your not doing it at 60 you should use bio washing liquid / powder.

I wash all mine @ 60 just incase except for my hammocks and chairs as daren't wash them @ 60!

think I might give it a go as I can only use non-bio washing powder as the bio stuff gives me horrific eczema

It is half price at Ocado at the moment
