I have done a search and have read a couple of the related threads but was just looking for any new or recent thoughts.
The girls are my daughters pigs and whilst on the whole she does a good job of looking after them, she is 12, I sometimes feel they could be cleaned out a bit better each day, I have made things as easy as I can for her, and spent a small fortune in the process!
They all live in their own shed, which has electric and light, they are on fleece in the hutches and currently on disposable puppy pads in the run as the washable ones were proving tricky to get washed and dried now the weather has changed.

So my question is - is a handheld vacuum worth the investment or do we just keep going with a good old fashioned dustpan and brush?

I've had a vacuum for mine since I got them. It's really easy to suck up little bits like poop and hay dust. I've recently bought a dustpan and brush though because it doesn't handle large hay bits well.

Do you mean on the shed, or in the hutches? Sorry if that's a stupid question. If it's on a shed floor or similar I'd use a brush. I have a handheld vacuum (keep losing the charger for it so it doesn't get used much, but that's not the vacuum's fault), and I find, if it's the sort of flooring you can use a brush on, I end up using the brush anyway even after the vac.
Anything else, a vac has been useful.

Thank you, in the hutches mainly as sometimes manoeuvring the pan and brush isn't always easy and the far corner I can't reach easily, the run area is ready with a brush.
I'm trying to just make their cleaning up easier and probably more to my standards!

Then yeah, I'd go for a handheld, especially if you don't want to cart a standard sized hoover down to the shed. But even the best handheld has nothing on a proper one, and mine can be very hit and miss on what it actually sucks up unless the battery's at pretty much full.
