Hello, my 6.5 year old sow went to the vets two weeks ago to have an ovarian cyst removed and a spay. Over a week later she started peeing pure blood, I phoned the vet and they gave her a 5 day course of Baytril at 0.2ml once a day. Am I right to be irritated by this? Usually for a suspected uti as bad as this it would be 0.4ml twice a day becuase of their metabolism and usually a longer course!

Is your vet a piggy savvy exotic vet? If so, then I’d ask them to explain why they’ve prescribed that dosage, so you can understand. If not, there’s a list of recommended vets at the top of the page. Hope your girl improves.

Sadly no, I live on an island and we sadly only have access to one vet. Previous vets at the practice have always given me a much longer course of antibiotics and at least 0.4ml twice daily.

Ah ok. I’d still be inclined to have a chat to the vet anyway and explain why you’re so worried and what’s happened in the past.

Yeah, waiting on phone call from.vet that owns the practice. I just didn't know if I was over reacting or not. Thanks 🙂
