My boys have gone back out for the summer and after changing to fleece while they were inside over the cold winter I was loathe to start mucking about with woodshavings etc again.
So... I have figured out a way to use the fleece outside and so far so good!
I got a large cat litter tray and have put this in their 'sleeping/ hidey' area I pop towels/fleece in the tray and the boys hop in there to snooze and sleep.
It's great and actually makes the hutch soooo mush easier to clean as their poops are mainly in the litter tray, which once a day in the morning I am tipping out and shaking out the fleece. If it'll do another day i'm hanging it to air on the fence for the next day.

Piggyme234 uses fleece outside, I know I have seen the hutches, and she has no problems. Nice healthy happy piggies!

thought i would bump this...

does anyone else have any views of using fleece outside? also, i dont think i will be allowed to use the washing machine - handwash?

handwashing will kill your back and hands... It's harder work than you think. I ended up doing it a few weeks ago when a washing machine died on me and I had a load of soapy fleece to manage.

If my piggies were outside I would go for shavings and hay with a few smaller fleece bits to snuggle with. Small things, like a cozy or two could probably be washed by had, but I will never try a blanket again.

me too

My 3 piggies live outside, hutch has a full size plastic tray which covers entire bottom so I put lots of newspapers then two towels then two fleeces down. They have hay in their hidey house and a litter tray with shavings then hay but they only seem to poo in their house! So, once a day I take out fleeces and shake all the poo/hay off and replace the hay in the house, as necessary the whole beddiing is changed. Try hand washing fleeces in the bath with the shower - wet, wash then rinsing with the shower is much quicker than in the sink. If it's a wet day put a clothes dryer thing in the bath and hang up fleeces over bath - the water should drain off pretty quick too
