Hi,

My guinea pig is currently on baytril for a UTI.

I have ordered some Bene-Bac but it will not be here until tomorrow.

I picked up some human probiotic (Acidophilus) after reading that it could be used for guinea pigs.

The brand is Spring Valley and these are the ingredients:
Lactobacillus Acidophilus
Cellulose (Plant Origin)
Silica
Vegetable Stearic Acid
Vegetable Magnesium Stearate

I thought these were gel capsules I could use the powder in, but it turns out they are tablets.

Do you think these are safe to give her? I am worried about giving her Baytril without a probiotic, but I have ran out of all the Bene-Bac I had on hand.

Does your piggy have a healthy companion? If so, you can use some of your healthy piggy’s poops to make poop soup. That contains everything your poorly piggy needs to maintain their gut so would be the perfect thing to try in place of Bene-bac. I wouldn’t use human probiotics

This guide below should help you - there is a section entitled emergency alternatives which explains poop soup

I would either make up some poop soup as instructed above or wait one day until the Benebac arrives.
One day isn't a huge time to wait ,and it is better than using something you are unsure of and possible causing bigger issues in an already ill piggy.

I dont think using a human probiotic is a good idea, Lactobacillus digests milk so not appropriate for a vegan piggy gut at all!
I agree with the above, make some poop soup or wait for the piggy probiotic.
