Hi all, I have a pair of gorgeous boys (born 3 days apart different litters) who were born to 2 different mums that were abandoned and found to be pregnant mallethead. I decided to take on and rescue 2 boys when they were ready to leave their mums who are about a year old now and have always got on famously.
I have had many boys of varying ages over the last 15 years all from rescue and they have always been kept outside and looked after well. Last year with these 2 squeekers being so little I managed to get hubby to let me bring them into the conservatory (inside house not an option-he just will not agree-boo hiss!) which was a first and I loved it and I think so did they, I'd have kept them in all the time but the conserveratory is mainly glass and a bit like a greenhouse and I am not always home to accommodate their daily needs as it warms up. They were in a spare smaller hutch 4x1 foot maybe but I built an extra level into it. They were kept very snug in fleece carpeted accommodation and super snuggly snugglies with snuggle safe heat pad of course! They were turned out in the day into a 25x4 foot purpose built and very sheltered walk in grassed run with large hutch and inside conservatory over night. In spring the conservatory is too warm when the sun shines on good days for them to remain in there but eventually as the summer nights came in they have spent the entire summer out day and night.
They are out now still but I am in SE England and it's getting alot colder overnight. My brother recently came to see me and held them (they have indoor pigs) and commented on how lovely and warm they were which is good but I seem to have gone a bid mad and can't remember when I should bring them in over night? My other pigs were always outdoor pigs 365 days a year! The days are still probably a bit too warm to be in the conservatory in the day so I'm a bit stumped are they ok outside for a bit longer with extra measures, before anyone asks no we have no garage, shed or playhouse. We do have a tree house :{ kidding!
My other question is I'd prefer to have them in a big cage on my conservatory table rather than my very low hutch on the floor. I had my brothers 2 girls and they were kept on my table and the height etc made it much nicer to see them rather than in my low hutch (it has very short legs) great for my children but not me! I want to see them everytime I pass them plus our dog would stick his big nose nearby to say hello and his friendlyness was not appreciated by my boys he he! I need some help on cages they had a 120 ferplast which was great but the top was kind of flimsy and came apart every time I cleaned the girls out. I like the idea or a perspex lid save mess and help against draughts plus be more sold. Our hamster had a ferplast one with a big tray base and a perspex lid and I like it any help or thoughts welcome and sorry for HUGE post of waffle! :red
