Hi everyone, I woke up this morning to my guinea pig making this weird whistling noise while breathing. She’s eating hay and veggies and seems to be normal but now it sounds like The whistling noise is gone and subtle wheezing is in its place when i pick her up or she’s running from me in her cage when I go by. I can’t hear anything if she’s eating or just chilling in her cage. she had a lipoma removed on her belly around 3 weeks ago and was at the vet again on the 9th as she kept biting at it and it got infected. She’s on meloxicam till tomorrow, and the antibiotic sulfameth-trimeth 200-40MG/5ML suspension for 10 days. It’s Saturday for me and my vet isn’t open till Monday. I’m not sure If the medication is causing this or she’s developed a uri or something from her incision being infected

Hi

Please keep her on her antibiotic (which is better known under the brand name brand name bactrim (US) or sulfatrim (UK); it also should work for a URI.

If the weezing continues, please contact your vet on Monday. Should your girl take a sidden downturn, then please see an out-of-hours vet if you are located in the UK. It can be that some medication has gone down the wrong way; in this case, the symptoms should settle down again.

I would help us a lot in order to give you the correct advice, especially in an emergency, if you please added your country to location in your account details (accessed by clicking on your username on the top bar). That means we can automatically tailor any advice according to what available and what your options are where you live and don't have to keep the information as general as possible.
