Help please! I've noticed my boys fighting and just now I saw them lunge at one another. I then noticed Arthur was moving his mouth weirdly and picked him out.

He had blood around his mouth and face and I just picked up Romano and hes dripping blood from around his neck, lower body area.

What do I do?! Should I rush them both to the vets? I've already seperated them as I had planned to clean them.

I'm freaking out.

Give them a good check over and clean up as often blood looks like there's a lot more damage than there is then you can decide if they need a vet tonight or in the morning.

I would also keep the seperate at them moment if possible as they are likely to continue to fight once blood has been drawn.

I hope things work out alright.

I'm trying to look on Romano but hes black and long haired so its really to see injuries on him. I'll check Arthur

I'm not sure but I think its Arthur whose the bleeding one. But its hard to tell.

I really don't know what to do now. I have Arthur in a downstairs run but I don't have a spare water bottle. My spare one broke.

Give him a little dish with a small amount of water in & top it up as he drinks. If you get a white kitchen towel & dab it over his body, you should find the wound when the towel comes away bloody. You can bathe his would using a teaspoon of salt to a pint of warm water left to cool. Any bite wounds can turn into an abscess or get infected so if it looks red or sore or feels hot to the touch tomorrow he will need to see a vet for antibiotics.

Thank you.

They both seem to be fine as I'm keeping a close eye on them and theres no more bleeding but I'll give them a clean.

It's really shaken me up to see.

I am so very sorry; it can really shake you when you see piggies fight like that.

Please try to gently clean any wounds you can fight with sline solution (you have been given the recipe). Keep a close eye on them and see the vet if necessary.

Sadly, after a bad fight like that, your boys won't go together again. You have several options available to you, so please don't rush into anything, especially as long as you are so upset!

I really think its Arthur whose torn up.

Poor boy! He really looks like he's been in the wars! :(

I know. :(

I just cleaned them both but I can't seem to get it off of Arthur. It's kind of dried and its still wet too despite washing it. He wasn't enjoying me doing it either.

I cleaned Romano but he didn't have any blood on him so I really think its only Arthur who was bleeding and that Romano had Arthurs blood on him.

Romano seems fine but very sad whereas Arthur is just eating and chilling out.

I'm glad thats a good sign.

It was only the other day I was celebrating having them for a year and now this. :(

For such normally docile creatures they certainly know how to fight, don't they? I'm so sorry your two have had such a spectacular falling out.

I suspect a lot of the damage to Arthur looks worse than it is. I had a similar incident a good few years back and I totally panicked at the blood, but after the squealing from the injured piggy and a good bath it wasn't as bad as the blood would have made you believe.

I would wash Arthur's face with warm salt water, just to try and help clean and disinfect/sterilise the area, leave him overnight and reassess tomorrow. If you have cotton wool balls or something I find this is better for cleaning around wounds than something like tissue/kitchen roll. You can place a soggy ball over the wounds and just let the warm water soak through and clean him up a bit. It might look like it's not going anywhere if he's still bleeding a bit so if he'll tolerate it, just keep cleaning and see if you can get to the wounds and see how deep they are.

Fingers crossed that he's only suffered a few minor scrapes! Hugs for you, too!

Thank you bunny. He actually hasn't made any sounds of distress over his cuts and neither has Romano. He was chattering his teeth a lot as I picked him up and seemed to be making faces.

It looks to me like his nose and some of his lip is split open and thats where the bleeding is from.

I've washed his face as long as he would let me which wasn't long as he squirmed a lot, headbutted me then ran up and hid in my neck.

It's still around his face but I've done it the best I can. I'm going to leave it for now and try again tomorrow.

It just seems he really pushed Romano to his limit. Romano's very calm and kept avoiding him the whole time but eventually he got fed up and lunged.

I just feel so bad for them both.. *hugs back*

Awwww sorry to hear they had a major fall out :( And what a shock you must have got :(

How are they this morning? Hope all the wounds are looking okay.

xx

It was very horrifying to witness. =(
The thing was I was going to clean out their cages but saw them fighting so put it off because I'd have to move them to a smaller cage to clean it.

This morning Romano is cuddled up near the divider close to my other boars and is sitting there looking sad and Arthur is downstairs sitting there looking quite sad too. I feel terrible for them both.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hit the "like" button. I hope both pigs are okay, and you can find a solution for the fighting. Thinking of you xx.

Oh that is such a shame :( It must be horrible seeing them unhappy ...... but much worse watching them fall out like that.

x

It is. I feel so bad. But I told them off for fighting and said its their faults. xD;
I think I'm still in the shocked mode at the moment as it doesn't seem real.

That's okay. Easily done. I do it on my mobile sometimes.

Thank you.

Oh I am so sorry they have had a fight. What a shame. :( Boars seem to be very difficult sometimes.

Just a repost from my other thread as it fits here more.

Well I took them both to the vets today.

To my shock and surprise Romano is covered in bites all over his back. The vet showed me the worst bite and you can see the two teeth marks and its at least a nail width deep into his skin. I feel absolutely horrible for them. He's covered in a few of them.

Arthur has a bite on his face but otherwise doesn't have anything else.

I've been given some medicine for them both and Romano's hair was shaved short.

I feel absolutely dreadful for them both and ever so guilty.

Two of my boys recently fell out - they'd been living together for over 2yrs! i was shocked when i took one of them to the vets to discover he had 4-5 bite wounds to his face (i only saw the one - which very quickly despite my cleaning it everyday swelled up in to an abscess)

For me the hardest decision was deciding what to do next - i know thye rescues are over-run at the moment so giving one of them up wasn't really an option. Getting another two males was a considered option, but due to financial reasons i couldnt expand on my already 10 pigs. I spent a small fortune on buying new cages and at this moment in time and for the forseeable future my two boys will have to live separately. While it's difficult seeing them have little/no interaction with other pigs, I'm safe in the knowledge that neither can hurt one another. If circumstances change in the coming months then ill review the situation, in the meantime my boys will have to make do with the odd run around outside with my group of piggies (through the run bars of course).

Take some time to review the situation, i found things looked much clearer when i'd given it days/weeks to find a solution.

I have given myself a few days to think it over. I heard the rescue I've contacted, the woman is away until 4th august so I know I definitely have that long.

I've been thinking many options. My parents are telling me to just get rid of both but I absolutely cannot.

I thought of the option of swapping the two boys for girls in need of a home instead of getting two new boars.

My main concern is my current two having a fight with their new cage mate not long after and I don't want to see either of them hurt again...

Darn boys. Why do they have to make it so hard?

Well I've booked a visit with the rescue on 11th august. Let's hope I can come to a nice ending to all this sadness. =)

Well I took them both to the vet and Romano had bites all over his back and Arthur only had the single one on his face.

This morning (or yesterday... 11.8.12) I took Arthur to a rescue on the reccomended rescues list and he's now there.

Romano is still at home with me and is a current single piggy. I've messaged every nearby rescue but sadly not a single one of them have any single boys. One told me to phone back at the end of the month as she might get some in and she will try and pair Romano up.

So for now all I can do is keep rechecking websites and hope one comes along.

Thank you. :)
