I'm so sorry for the graphic photos. WHAT IS THIS THING? It's got a texture like the fatty part of a steak.

I just went up to bring the piggies dinner, and Cookie had passed this thing within the last two hours.

- She seems completely happy and has a normal appetite
- I am 80% sure the undigested pellets in the photo went through her, possibly wrapped in this thing
- Last night it looked like she was struggling to poop. I was ready to bring her to the vet and start syringe feeding her Critical Care, but when I checked on her this morning, she clearly had success pooping, as it was all over her cage.

Medical history:
- 1 month ago she spent about 5 days bleeding while pooping. The vet said it was a tumor, and palliative care was all they could do.
- Immediately after leaving the vet, she stopped bleeding, and the bleeding didn't come back until about a week ago. Went through a similar progression this time, though a little less hungry than usual. She's been eating normally for about 36 hours now.

Not sure what to do, but am totally ready to bring her to the vet in the morning.

I am very grateful for any help I can get here.

Hi.

I would say it looks like tissue or clotting, I have had something like this myself with my male guinea pig, haven't got to the bottom of it yet so I wouldn't be able to help you out with what it could be, but I would like to know the outcome of this please, it may help me out, to understand what's possibly going on with my piggy.

I would weigh your pig to see if they have lost weight. Do you go to a exotics vet? They are better for guinea pigs. Good luck for you and your piggie. Please let me know how you and your pig does. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I agree it looks like tissue, like it was a part of her insides that got yanked out? I'm not sure what clotting is in this context. Do you have a link you could share from your research?

We do go to an exotics vet. I will reply back if I learn anything new. Thank you 🙏

Blood clotting a blood clot. Thanks.

I’m sorry to hear she is on palliative care. Please contact your vet and tell them this has happened. They will be best place to advise you on whether they want to see her and give her a check over

Definitely show that thing to a vet... even if only in a photo on a videocall!

I don't know about guinea-pigs per say, but I know that other animals (like cows or pigs or people) can pass part of the linings of the gut if they have something like Salmonella. The inner gut lining is constantly shed in small amounts we can't see: as part of the natural process of absorbing food through into the body this barrier can't be too solid. When we get Salmonella the bacteria tries to burrow through the gut and the gut fights back by just shedding the lining to get rid of the bacteria so you can pass some very stringy, fleshy-looking things along with the copious diarrhoea! It's a natural defence mechanism.
Your girl obvs hasn't got anything like Salmonella as she has normal poops but I'm wondering if she's passed part of whatever was growing in her gut... either that or she's shed part of the lining as her body attempts to battle it?
