Hubby just shouted me in a right state poor George has a nasty sore on his back, something has irrated his back so he's pulled a lot of fur off and left a nasty sore theres also dandruff around the area
Could it be mites ? feel so awful for not noticing before
I'll take him to the vets tomorrow but is there anything i can give him for tonight ?

Hi. Sorry to hear about his sore. It does sound very much like a mite attack, as it does leave them sore and with dandruff. However, does he have a companion as ive heard that they barber eachother also. Hopefully someone more experienced will be along to help you shortly.

It does sound most likely to be mites as on his back. Georgie had this a few weeks ago, just as you described. Dont feel too bad a it can get to that stage in about a week or so.
Get him to the vets tomorrow for ivermectin, he will be fine. It is possible as Katie says for them to get a fungal skin infection separately or at the same time as mites, but treat for mites first. Coco neem or manuka lotion from GorgeousGuineas can help soothe the irritation but dont use within 48 hours of mites treatment.

Let us kow how he is, poor little man. The vet gave us a fungal shampoo for Jeremy - he still has a bit of dandruff, he's had it for a while but I have been using the GG shampoo and teasing out the clumps of hair, and its slowly getting better. It was the dandruff that made me think it could be fungal, but Jeremy didn't have any sores, so a mites jab is the best to try first.
BTW, if you put coco neem on him, don't do what we did and let him run round while it works its way into the skin - trying to catch Jeremy afterwards was like trying to catch an oiled hog! I couldn't keep hold of him, he was so slippy!
