Hi,

One of my girl guinea pigs is attacking the others. I noticed one of my boars had had his ear torn. I had a trip to the vets and split my two boars up. I thought they were fighting over my sows. However, the vet said that they were both castrated and shouldn't be like this, but obviously I feel better, split them up.

Chocolate (torn ear boar) is now happily living with Mirtle (sow). However, this morning, I noticed my other boar has had his ear savaged. He is living with the remaining two sows. I am not sure what to do. I know which sow it is, but she can't live on her own. I can't put two boars with one sow as this would be a blood bath. I also can't afford another piggy on my salary.

PS - I think the sow in question was treated like this by other pigs prior to me getting her. She knows no better.
I am tempted to put the sow on her own, but ... HELP!

Some piggies can't get on with others but if you put her on her own you would have to give her lots of attention and lots of toys so she doesn't get bored :) hope this helps

Gosh well i'd be really careful what you do.......when you intro'd the piggies was on neutral ground? have they been happy previously?
just a few questions to think about........
Honestly they can just change their minds our two boys were happy together and then .........well i think maybe the hormones kicked in and bingo it was not a good idea so we separated, but we did a cage divider so they could still sit beside each other and talk and communicate, i also let them have strict supervised time together :)

Can you answer a few questions that i think might help :)
how long has this threesome been together? has there been any problems before this, illness or such? just trying to help you cause i'm sure some of our more exprienced people will help you and answering these questions may help even more :)

really sorry to hear of all your problems i'm hoping with creating this thread you'll get some great ideas from all our lovely members who've experienced just the same ......... :{

Good luck love i do hope they all sort this out xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
HUGS for you to cause it's very distressing :( xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Its highly unlikely that 2 boars even with being neutered will happily live with sows together, all neutering does is take away the sperm, not the boar/male behaviour! your vet was quite wrong in telling you there should be no problems :{

You sure you definately only have 2 boars?

i agree with this,i have never heard of 2 neutered boars getting along when sows are involved,maybe you could try bathing them all and try th dominant female with the other boar,basically the husbands swap wives if you get what i mean,this may work better as it could just be personality clash that is making you sow behave like this xxxxxxxxx

sorry i miss read your original post ........ mallethead
my haste and my problem malletheadmallethead

i tend to agree having two boars even castrated with the girls they're still going to defend their territory......it's a boar thing (yeah i've had two boars before)
i wish you luck..........perhaps see what other people suggest cause it might save you from heart ache with injuries ........i'm sorry this has all happened 8...8...

Unfortunately, there are the odd sow or boar who won't accept other piggies. If you know who the offender is, separate her, and keep her where she can see and hear the others. Make sure that she IS a she!

I am going to keep Chocolate (boar) and Mirtle (sow) together. But it's temperamental sow Gertie and Eyebrows (boar) who I am worried about. I have had Gertie checked. She is a girl. But if she has been brought up with attacking I don't know how she can change.

I am going to double check she's a girl, but I just know.

It's the ear piercing I hate. The two boars have got torn ears, yet neither did it to the other.

AARRRGGGGHHHH!:)>>>pow-pow:0

Anyway, to cut a long story short. Both boys are now removed from girls and living inside with us, getting used to each other again, thanks to some good advice from an excellent guinea pig care book.

Thanks for replies.xx
