I have two male pigs, both live in cages next door to each other. One is 4 years old, the other is 4 months old. When do guinea pigs mature and do they release some kind of scent? The reason I ask is because Cadbury the 4 year old past two days has been sniffing at the bars and stamping his feet and making a funny noise like a gargled sound. Is he just trying to tell Archie (4 months) that he is boss?

yes they do release a smell, it comes from their grease gland and when they get upset, this smell can be quite prominant!

They make a rumbling type sound and sway their back too! Its nothing to be worried about, only if they are put together and they physically start fighting, teeth being shown and blood drawn.

Its just their way of showing whose boss and fighting for terrority

Thats exactly what Cadbury has been doing but only past two days. Do you think its because Archie is getting more mature whereas before Cadbury just saw him as a baby and no threat?

the likelihoods are that Archie is now older and is at that age to start doing it back and wanting to get that little bit bolder. Have they ever been together? Is Archie rumbling back too?

Archie is a funny little thing. He is so talkative and just talks and squeeks all the time... for food, for cuddles, he gets over excited. No rumbling from him though just loads of popcorns. He does bite the cage... the bit thats next to Cadburys cage as if hes frustrated that he can't get to him. We have tried toys, chew bars etc. but he ignores them and just constantly bites the bars. We have held them and let them sniff each other but Cadbury rumbled then so we kind of just back away because I didn't want any fights.

My boyfriend did say that Archie is getting a bit more adventurous now and ballsy and has a bit more of an attitude problem! :))
