We sadly lost little Dolly at only 3 years old, and I'm devastated. She was bleeding heavily from her bladder and passing clots, and despite surgery and a flush and 2 vet trios within 24 hours post op, my little girl just couldn't recover. My vet has never seen anything like it, and it's horrible not really knowing what on earth was going on. But I could see she wasn't gonna rally around and I took her back to the vet again to end her suffering just 24 hours after falling ill and having surgery. She was from ayrs guinea pig rescue and was the sweetest little soul. She popcorned her way through life and I will never forget her beautiful little face !
The morning of finding dolly bleeding was the morning of our moving day. Due to dollys poorly state, she never got to see her new cage in her own new room as she was couped up in her hospital cage to keep her warm and comfortable. I wish she got to enjoy all the space with old crunchie but sadly it wasn't meant to be.
She leaves behind old crunchie who at 8 years 3 months with heart, lung, kidney disease AND arthritis will now be a solo piggy. Crunchie is a nightmare to bond, hates my other two girls and had to go dating to meet dolly. Due to her current frail age, I've decided the stress of bonding outweighs the pro's. I have since cut the high sided coroplast of the hay areas, and crunchie now interacts through the grids with Rowan and Poppet. Mainly she is trying to lure them over.. then tries to bite them ! She struts away proud as punchand does some oap popcorning- she seems happy having the interaction without the fear of being hurt and dominated. Infact, she is more animated and cheerful than she was when she lived with dolly bless her.
Crunchie still has her meds tweaked regularly, sees the vet at least twice a month and has her laser therapy every week. We now have a new routine of stopping in the countryside on the way home from her laser where she enjoys the sun and the grass and clover! Her weight falls a little when something needs adjusted, but never to the point of needing help with eating. Once we pinpoint the issue and adjust her meds accordingly, she bounces back and just absolutely amazes me every single day. Her coat is gorgeous, she's super active and cheeky and loves her food. She's hard work, and expensive!.. but by God is she worth it.
