Hi, I have 4 week old baby girl who is not thriving. She's only put on 60g since birth... Her sibling have put on triple 😩
She was sneezing a lot and making strange sounds whilst feeding from mum. I thought she had a cold so took her to the vet who put her on a 7 day course of Baytrill 2.5% for 7 days.
She is still sneezing and has lots of stuff coming out her nose- sometimes it bubbles.
The vet is at a loss of what to do- I've taken her to 2 different ones.
She seems worse if she eats veg... Could she be allergic?
She eats so well and runs around happily in-between the sneezing. But her lack of weight gain and the almost constant sneezing is a huge worry.

Unfortunately you only see a few sneezes in this video bit I'll try get another later

If a piggy has a URI (they don’t get viral colds) then they can need either a longer course of antibiotic or a different type of antibiotic.
Being in a steamy room and a decongestant (bisolvon) can sometimes help.
Is your vet one on our recommended list?

You will need to upload any video to YouTube and then post a link to it here

I had a similar problem with my Susie who unfortunately has now passed on. We were in and out of vets like a yoyo, spending over £1200 in only a few months! She was constantly treated for URIs and given multiple sorts of antibiotics such as baytril, sulfatrim (which did work for few weeks but returned) and then was put on metronidazole which unfortunately, caused her to go into stasis however, she did survive. We were then advised by the vet to nebulise her, so we got a nebuliser and a medium sized plastic storage box and put a hole in it with a hot poker, then placed the tube into the box allowing it to fill with steam. We started off at 5 mins a session, gradually increasing it to 20 mins. We were given F10 antiseptic solution from the vet to Dilute and put into the nebuliser and can honestly say after months of trial and error it worked! Her symptoms were wet, runny nose, labored breathing and crusty nose. After treatment with F10 she was much better and she didn't need more antibiotics which was good. Just wanted to say my Susie did not pass away due to her respiratory issues, she unfortunately died after having surgery.

Is your vet cavy savvy? It may be worth consulting one of the vets on our list of recommended vets. Has she had an X-ray? Did the vets say if her chest sounded clear or not? If she’s 4 weeks old do you have her siblings? Do they have any signs of illness?
