Hello,
Its me with Grandad and Elliot! :)
They are both doing ever so well and are lovely guineas, except Grandad can get fidgetey and often a bit jumpy when you go to pick him up but otherwise he is lovely too. I have finally got myself a triangular run, and they are now happily living out in the shed, and they run around, pop corning all over the place they are very sweet creatures! :))

I just have a quick question for you guys, today when i picked up elliot i noticed a yellow thing crawling around on his head, i went to get it but poor elliot flinched as he is sensitive around his head area, i was just wondering if it is fleas, nits, or if it might have just been a bug and if guineas suffer from any of these bugs?
Let me know what you think
x

thank youu, but i don't think its any of them so hopefully its just a accidental bug thats gotten in there :)

sounds like lice. the lice my guineas had were yellow and wriggly like you describe and on their head. have a look through their hair carefully with a good light, chances are you will see them.

yes i believe so this is what i saw, i only saw one and i have seen it again today but when i go to remove it my guinea flinches as he is sensitive round his head area, is it best if i take him to the vet!?

While lice don't kill (unlike untreated mites), they can severely impact on a piggy's life and need to be treated.

It would be best if you went to a vet to get a proper diagnosis and treatment.

does sound like lice i use xenex from the vets its also protects against flystrike which they can get this time of year xx

love the name grandad i literally thought you meant your grandad was very jumpymalletheadmalletheadmallethead:(|):(|):{:{ then i clicked onmallethead

haa that made me laugh, he does really look like a grandad and thats what the people at the pet store called him so i have just stuck with it ever since

I think i am taking him to the vet next week as its my half-term so i will be able to take elliot the one with the suspected lice, i am not too sure as i have only found 1 lice or whatever it is but wish me luck
