Hello, everyone.

After losing our lovely boy Higgins, I've been unsure about bonding Gibson with another boar. He has seemed Ok, but as of yesterday seems quieter and a little more skittish.

I have been offered a 10 week old baby boar, however, I would have to bring him home due to distancing restrictions, and have concerns over this. What if it doesn't work out? what if it makes Gibson unhappy to have a youngster around? Is a baby the way to go, or should I keep looking for an older boar?

Any advice/experiences most welcome!

Age is not really a factor - character is the main thing, he could just as easily reject an older boar as he could a baby. There’s no way of telling until you try.
If if doesn’t work out, they would need to live in separate but side by side cages.
It’s such a difficult thing at the moment though because the situation isn’t allowing for dating but you’ve also got to do what is right by Gibson and if he is starting to show signs of loneliness, living next door to another piggy is better than being alone.

it’s a difficult one, unless the rescue will bond or they are prepared to take back the piggie if the bonding fails then it’s an unknown if they would get along, hopefully it would be a success but you never know until you try and bond

thank you, both.

I am tempted to try, we have room to extend the C&C out if we needed to have them live side by side. I just hate to think of Gibson as lonely. He rushes up to talk to the dog, and us, but yesterday and today he's only really come out of his blanket to eat/drink, he doesn't seem too happy and I think perhaps company could be why. My other half isn't keen in case it upsets Gibson too much..

He is more likely to be upset by being alone for longer than necessary. There is never any guarantee with bonding though so even if they have to live side by side if it doesn't work out, then he will still have company
