My piggy has these unsettling noises coming from his nose once in a while. Usually in the morning. Then he sneezes and the noises are gone. I've already talked to an online vet that said it is not an emergency since he's otherwise behaving completely normally, eating, drinking, playing etc. He has not lost any weight and the noise does not seem to bother him until it gets really loud - then he does a big sneeze and its gone. The online vet recommended saline drops in the nostrils throughout the weekend and if it doesn't get better - vet on Monday. I already have an appointment. Now we just have to see what happens. I'm worried sick as I just lost a piggy at the beginning of the year very suddenly due to stasis. I just need everything to be okay.

I’m sorry to hear of the loss of your other piggy.

Noises in the nose are generally due to an obstruction caused by an irritant like dust (hay dust or bedding dust).
Piggies have narrow airways and any obstruction will mean their breathing gets noisy. The fact it is cleared by a sneeze and the noise stops is good - he has managed to clear what is in there.

Check that your hay isn’t dusty and that any disposable bedding you use isn’t dusty.
Also check for other irritants in the room such as candles, perfumes, sprays etc.

Otherwise, a hands on check by a vet is always a good idea.

Good news! He has not made the strange noise since friday and today we got the all clear from the vet. No laboured breathing, no sounds in his lungs. He's good to go and we think it might've just been a piece of hay or something in his nose that took a while to get sneezed out!
