I adopted 2 piggies over a year ago, ive only heard one of them wheek once and they have never done it again, now whenever they want food or are exited to eat it they just grind their teeth... i looked online and teeth grinding is a sign of unhappiness so now I'm concerned, i built them a huge cage, feed them hay and pellets and veggies 2 or 3 times a day. Does anyone have tips on how to make them happy?

My boys grind their teeth (like a quiet chewing sound) a bit when they're waiting for food. Not to be confused with teeth chattering (loud like teeth rapidly banging off each other) which is an angry sound. Also not all piggies wheek. Since my Snoopy passed away Chip has only just started wheeking again occasionally and Humpty has never wheeked but i dont think they're unhappy.

I think there’s a saying “ empty vessels make the loudest noise” they are well fed, loved and know they don’t have to shout for their supper x
Some piggies wheek others don’t I have both, I don’t think they are unhappy at all 😊

My girls are loud enough to be heard from another room, while Oscar likes to let the girls do the wheeking for him, although he does wheek sometimes 🥰

Not all piggies wheek and are vocal; many adults are actually pretty quiet.

In your case, the low teeth chattering is just an expression of impatience. Nothing to worry about; they are just telling to hurry up! ;)

I have two boars. Pepper has never wheeked and Percy only does it very occasionally.

I have two boys and Bruno grinds his teeth at me if I’m not fast enough to feed them in their opinion! My boys do a lot of “ wee wee wee “ chatting but rarely do the loud wheeks, think I’ve only ever heard Bruno do it a handful of times :) x
