I put old towels underneath (with newspaper under them). I change the fleece every 3 days. The newspaper is often still dry.
Lots of people use puppy pads underneath but I've never tried them. My aim was to reduce the amount of stuff I had to throw away as we only have our rubbish collected once a fortnight so puppy pads wouldn't help me with that.
Sorry edited to ask what is it that isn't really working exactly?
The newspapers get stuck, and I mean really stuck to the fleece. I had to speak the fleece in hot water, and scrub it off with a really hard brush thing and about of soap. Put I guess putting towels under the fleece would stop that. Thanks
I sew fleece around water absorbent crib mattress pads and water absorbent cloth diapers. I brush them off everyday outside. I wash the smaller fleece pads and fleece beds every other day or so and the large one once a week. Makes for easy cage cleaning!
Also when I put all the beds/small pads in with the big pad, I do a double wash to make sure it's fully clean!
I have a custom liner for under fleece I bought off Etsy that helps a TON. But when it's being washed I've just had fleece blankets layered and that has worked out alright too. I used to use towels and that worked alright too, but since I have enough blankets, just use them.
