Hi everyone my guinea pig continuously drooling (saliva). So, then I take her to vet. Vet said that she has grown teeth. Then he trimmed teeth. Even after teeth trimmed the drooling not stopped. Then I went to vet again he said that she has mouth ulcer her upper right molar teeth.so, he said to use lidocaine but unfortunately after using that lidocaine she showed symptoms of respiratory and chocking. Then I stopped and given medication for respiratory. Then the respiratory issue gone. But the drooling not gone. And she is not eating since 20 days. I am giving critical care. Can you please let me know what helps to cure mouth ulcer please🙏🙏🙏 if anyone face this issue please respond.

I’m sorry to hear this.

The key questions would be
- has the dental issue actually been properly dealt with?
- Which teeth did the vet trim?

It’s possible that the teeth still aren’t correct and that is why her mouth is still sore, and why she is still drooling, why the ulcer has formed and why she is not eating.
Incorrectly filed teeth can cause more issues.
Equally, without chewing hay the teeth will eventually overgrow again.

Is she on painkillers?

Are you weighing her each day to ensure you are getting enough critical care into her to keep her weight stable each day?

Vet trimmed under anesthesia and said molars. He didn't given painkillers too. I am giving critical care properly and she is not loosing weight. But she is having pain. So I have given metacam for two days. Then I stopped because I am worried it may effect her stomach.

The painkillers won’t affect her stomach, being in pain will be detrimental to her particularly in the short term. I, and many other people on here, have had animals on metacam for months sometimes years due to a long term health conditions.

Assuming the teeth have been done properly then she needs painkillers to help while the ulcer is there. It will heal assuming the teeth are correct, but two days of painkillers may not be enough.

Assuming the teeth haven’t been done properly and/or they are rubbing on the check then she will still needs painkillers and the teeth will need to be checked again if she doesn’t pick up.

You say she hadn’t been eating for 20 days - but when was the dental actually done and When was the ulcer diagnosed?

Hi you the dental procedure done 18 days back and vet said she has ulcer too. After dental produce the drooling not stopped then I went vet after 7 days. Then he checked under anesthesia and said half of the ulcer cured takes more 11 days to cure. But he prescribed lidocaine after 7 days of teeth trim. But after using that medication breathing issues started then I stopped medication and started nebulization so it helped her. But she is still drooling not picking food. If I give small pieces also she feeling pain and puffing her body. And closing one eye where she has ulcer that side. she is having pain. What medication helps ulcer. How long it takes to cure.

We can’t actually tell you what to give - only a qualified vet can prescribe - but it is a low amount and may not be providing pain relief (or at least only minimal pain relief) particularly at only once a day (piggies need pain meds twice a day).
I can only encourage you to speak to your vet about her pain levels she is likely experiencing and the dosages needed.

She definitely is in pain given the signs you are describing.

I can’t say how long it’s going to take to heal because there are likely factors that we can’t know given we aren’t vets and can’t have a check of your piggy.
As I said, it will heal in time but only if the teeth aren’t still rubbing on her cheek.

The vet not prescribed medication he just money minded. He just calling to clinic and giving injections. I asked him please provide pain killers. Even though he is not responding. Can you please let me know the dosage. Before another vet prescribed 0.2 ml once a day to my another pet. Actually in India we won't get guinea pig vet. It's very sad to see them suffering.

you thank you very much I will give pain medication. It will help her to even painless. I will wait for two days and will take her to another vet.

I can’t imagine how hard it is for you to find a decent vet - I know it’s not easy.

We can’t tell you a dosage to give though - we are not vets and can’t know the clinical need. There is a scale which can be given with a minimum and maximum based on clinical need and based on their weight.

Definitely try to find another vet though - she is in pain and needs help.

If possible please let me know what helps healings mouth ulcer. 🙏🙏🙏it will help my baby

Again, we can’t tell you what medications to give - only a vet can do that. I know it’s hard for you but we aren’t vets so legally cannot advise on medications.
As I said, if it is that her teeth are still rubbing on her cheek then medication will not necessarily help until the teeth are fixed. The fact she hadn’t stopped drooling and is still in pain may be that her teeth aren’t right.

Any issue in and with the mouth can cause drooling. Generally we see drooling when their tongue is being trapped by overgrown teeth. They can’t move their tongue properly to be able to swallow. It could be pain from the ulcer that is causing her to drool but I could also be that her teeth are incorrect and still causing a problem

Sorry your pig is unwell. We're very lucky here in the UK to have lots of experienced guinea pig vets but I know that's not the case in India.
It would be worth trying another vet to take another look inside her mouth, as well as continuing with her pain relief. Best of luck, I hope she's eating well again soon 🤞❤️

Teeth overgrowing and spurs forming a gradual process. It may be that she managed for as long as she possibly could but it then became too painful for her.
