Now that the pigs and I are becoming friendly, I thought I might start one of these photo threads for them. Introductions are probably in order.

This is Uffe, a 3 year old (neutered) little gentleman who came to me from a previous owner, who was either unable or unwilling to keep him. Seems to be the leader of the gang, loves napping in a fleece circus tent, and will remind me (loudly!) if I’m late with dinner veggies.

Next is Julia, 6 weeks old and the smallest and most shy of the bunch. She seems to be the one who enjoys lap time the most, though, and likes to keep a lookout from the cage loft.

And then there’s Nina, Julia’s sister, also 6 weeks old but much more adventurous and assertive. Often the first one to explore anything new I put in the cage, and then she’ll wheek-wheek at Julia, seemingly letting her know that it’s something interesting and fun, and no reason to be shy. :D

Your piggies are utterly gorgeous!

Love Uffe red eyes!

Hope to see lots more of them!

Julia is inside the hidey, Nina on top - I have no idea how she ended up there, didn’t think piggies can make jumps like that. I got worried (perhaps unnecessarily but better safe than sorry) that she’d fall, so I took the house down and put in a cozy tunnel instead. But I like the picture. :)

Red eyed whites are a breed of guinea pig :)

Oh, I had no idea! That’s interesting! Is there a name for it? I have not paid attention to their breeds (since none of them will have babies), all of their vet certificates say ”Lakeland” (but I think the girls’ dad may be Abyssinian, they have some of that funny fur, especially Julia.)

Gotta admit I know zero about guinea pig breeds, I just know they're a breed from other members here.

Nice to meet PEW! Say “Hello” to Pink-Eyed Whites and Ruby-Eyed Guinea Pigs

I had 2 red eyed whites.
They were so gorgeous- still sadly missed so I am definitely in love with Uffe.
The girls are beautiful too

To be honest, I didn’t know how to feel about the red eyes at first - I had never seen a piggy like that before so it was unusual to me. But I fell in love with Uffe instantly, he’s such a gentle and cuddly little fellow.

I just happened to see a video on YouTube about how in rescues guinea pigs with red eyes are often overlooked because people find the eye colour ”creepy”. This is really a thing apparently! That makes me a little sad. Everyone is entitled to have preferences, obviously, but still. How could any guinea pig look creepy? I don’t understand.

It’s the same with rabbits with red eyes sadly

The more adventurous one of my boys is always jumping on top of one of their hidey houses! He often curls up on top for a nap, he seems to like it.

I’ve been trying to put treats on top of the piggy house and kept a pee pad up there, hoping they’ll discover that it can be a good lookout spot, and today Nina the explorer found her way up there. Her actual name, Janeway, after the Star Trek star ship captain, seems more and more fitting. :D

I have this cozy thing that looks like a pickup truck that I sometimes fill up with hay, the pigs seem to enjoy it. Today Uffe ran over the hay truck, taking most of the hay with him, all over the cage, and then he occupied the cozy truck for most of the afternoon.
