Types of Cages

Hello

I'm a complete novice with guineapigs so I have no idea on what cages are recommended or what minimum sizes are. I hope to get a pair or trio so would need a cage big enough for 2-3. What's the minimum size they could have? Is two levels better than one?

Hi,

The minimum cage size for two is 4ft x 2ft or bigger, for three you are looking at another foot in size.

Hiya welcome to the forum and the world of piggies. Piggy homes fall into three basic categories, hutches, indoor shop bought cages and C&C cages (home made indoor set ups made of cubes and correx ). Just to add, some people do use hutches or cages with two levels, just make sure the ramp is enclosed or has sides and is not too steep so they can't fall off.

I have two boys housed in this;

They love it and at a young age they're small and three would be comfortable. The only problems I found was the ramp was too steep and they weren't using it, but I covered it in fabric and enclosed it in a cardbvoard tube and that overcame the fear.

Thanks. I'm finding it hard to find one I like. I need a 1 tier cage that has a large door on the top of the cage. I also would like to get one big enough for 3 pigs, because I would love a trio. I like the Trixie 150 but I can't find anywhere that stocks it.

that looks good, especially the large door in roof. i preferably didn't want a stand but if the cage is good, then I'll work around that.

Ferplast do great 1 story cages with the whole top is a lid its great for access to your piggies

however if your having three pigs you'll need alot more space than these can give you, id recommend a C&C cage.
