Hello all,

We are new to this forum. You can find us on insta (marvel_piggie_squad)

We recently rehomed two new piggies. One of our young pigs (Rocket) started repeatedly sneezing. Suspecting a URI (maybe due to the stress of moving home), I rushed him to the vet. He’s also had nasal discharge and you could hear the effects of the infection with his breathing and rattling. The vet put him on Bayril (0.5ml twice a day - he weighs 700g).

He has been on the Baytril for 2 weeks and whilst he’s not gotten any worse, he’s not quite better. He is sneezing less but still sneezes and still some discharge. He’s a very happy and healthy piggie in all other respects. He’s actually gained weight (he’s now 800g), is always pop corning, very sociable, eats a lot and is very vocal when he hears the fridge door opening! I just can’t seem to shift this URI completely?

I’m going to call the vet again for advice. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar? A very happy pig, but stubborn URI? Surely it should have improved more with two weeks of Baytril?

A huge thanks to you all, any help much appreciated! 🐹🐹😊😊😊

As otehr have suggested he really needs to go back to the vet.
I had a similar expereince with one of my piggies who had a urinary infection that was hard shift. She had 2 weeks of Baytril and we then changed antibiotic for another two weeks, so in all she was on antibiotics for a month.
However this definetly cleared everything up properly.

I would wonder if Baytril is not an effective antibiotic against this particular bacteria. Maybe the vet would be willing to try a different one? I would give them a call.
